I just find it hard to believe that anybody would prefer to run corporate colors only, if there really were big sponsors ready to throw money at them. And not just Audi, but the other two recent manufacturers (maybe not so much Peugeot though, as Total was an actual title sponsor).

Historically, Audi seem to have been pretty big on keeping their corporate identity in motorsport, rather than going down the high-profile title sponsor route- I'm sure there are exceptions I've forgotten, but back in the 80's the rally Quattros generally ran in Audi Sport colours until 'HB' came on board in 1986/7, the IMSA/Trans-Am programmes of the same period kept Audi Sport colours, as did the 90's DTM and Supertouring campaigns, although some of the national importer-backed programmes around the world did have major outside sponsors (Rothmans in South Africa and Orix in Australia come to mind)
