Talent in F1
following on from my reply in Fizzie vs Trulli, do you think that the next wave of talent has hit? because in recent years, its been at the start of the decade or the late decade when suddenly a new wave of talent comes in today we have:
Raikonnen
Heidfeld
Fizzie
Trulli
montoya
schumacher (ralf)
PDLR
Possibly Mcnish
Alonso
does anyone agree with me?

I agree with all but McNish. He's hardly in the new generation of talent - he won't have an awfully long time in F1 (isn't he getting to his mid-30s now?) and while he's there Toyota will be nowhere near the front. I can't see him ever battling it out with the likes of Ralf, JPM, Kimi et al.

I think its highly unlikely that we'll see an era like the turbo era in terms of driver talent because they don't require the talent needed back then. I'm talking about Senna Prost Piquet Lauda (13 WDC there) and Mansell (another WDC). Also the 'lesser drivers were also able to win races then Laffite, Patrese, Alboreto, Tambay.
Todays crop are promising but I get the feeling that we're going to be disappointed by them. I hope i'm wrong but i don't know why.

I think the limit on the number of teams should be scrapped too because there are becoming fewer drives available once sponsorship takes hold. Remember the days of 26 car fields!!

Badoer's got talent: no doubt about it!
Add Badoer to that list. I mean, look at the way he won the 1992 F3000 Championship...

Yes Badoer Fan, you're right. In my eyes it's more than a shame that Ferrari didn't provide him a drive in the lasr years. But he will drive soon again in the races, finally.
Best regards,
Julian

But I can't really say that Fernando Alonso is battling it out with the best, and he's still regarded as quite a talented driver like Marc Gene.

But in future I'm sure Alonso will be up there winning races. By that time McNish will be in his late 30s, and I can't see him ever winning anything in F1.

Very funny. I have never been a Montoya fan and I never will be. Its as simple as that. I have far better drivers to focus my attention on.
