What's with the Deltawing retiring because of transmission failure? At the 2012 Rolex Ganassi changed the entire rear case and internals on the 01 and only lost 4 laps.

Maybe they didn't have a spare. They don't exactly have a Ganassi budget... or any budget, for that matter.
I remember Audi changing the transaxle in something like 4 minutes at Le Mans one year, which promptly lead to a rule change the following year.

I forgot also the advantage of DPs being a "roller" chassis. Engine/drivetrain can be removed w/o disturbing suspension settings.

That's because the engine isn't a stress-point.

Stressed member or not, the engine mounting is still a stressed point(/s) due to it's weight and the torque it produces.
