Maybe they didn't have a spare. They don't exactly have a Ganassi budget... or any budget, for that matter.
I remember Audi changing the transaxle in something like 4 minutes at Le Mans one year, which promptly lead to a rule change the following year.

belt driven has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I forgot also the advantage of DPs being a "roller" chassis. Engine/drivetrain can be removed w/o disturbing suspension settings.

Stressed member or not, the engine mounting is still a stressed point(/s) due to it's weight and the torque it produces.
