It'll be interesting to see how Robbie does, and if he has a pukka budget, who else he tests for. Plenty of time before a decision needs to be made.

The money he has from winning the Scolarship class this year should come in handy!

The word is he was very very quick once he dialed the car in. He was use 0.2 of the quicker of the two poles from the last round and running on knackered old Rubber.
I hear that he was complaining of being seasick when he first jumped in the car cos Prialux had is setup very very soft.
So give new rubber how quick would he have been?

I'm sure given new boots, Robbie could have gone like greesed lightning, hope he's got a deal for next year. Given the right tools theres no doubt he could win Class A.
Hope he wins the Young Driver Award
cheers

Robbie is definitely a star of the future, a few F1 teams should be keeping an eye on him for 2003.
By the way, at the latest test at Croft..........fastest in all 4 sessions?
Bruce Jouanny.
F1 needs a new Frenchman........

Dont you people get it! If your not with Carlin next year then you have not got a hope! It does not matter if he is a good driver or not, you still wont get past those HONDA tuned engines. Also it dont matter if SATOs little wonder (not) is there or not, I am sure that trevor carlin struck some kinda deal with Honda, getting him to F1 if he could have BAR Honda prepared engines for the next so many years. Why do u think flames shoot out the back of his car only. The guys who will pay the 425,000 for the drive with Carlin next year will win if they can keep it in a straight line. Why do u think Jag pulled out, there F3 and F1 bases are totally different and they just could not compete with the Carlin car, they aint stupid they can just see the sence, I am sure there will be a better series for 2002 than F3, one that is better than watching paint dry. Formula ford and F3 your lucky to see one overtaking manoveure and thats at the start.

Whilst I agree that the engines made a big difference, I am not so sure that Trevor has them for 2002.
They also found a lot of things on that car that other teams didn't find (or didn't pay for!).
A new car for 2002, with a new backend, including the sequential gearbox might just peg the difference back more than a bit.

Sid,
Athough a new car might make a difference, its still going to be BAR backed, as soon as Dallara ship it here, the car will be in the BAR factor and be tweeked like this one has been. I be very surprised if anyone comes near them this year. You watch Sato fail in F1 that will tell you how much of a different the Car makes in F3

A wise man once told me the only way to win in F3 is to cheat and not get caught or even better have tasset agreement from the organisers that there can be 2 sets of rules one for you and one for everyone else.
I suspect Sid is unable to say what he really feels as he is trying got get a ride for someone.
However the 2001 playing field was far from even. But with Sato, Davidson, Courtney et 'al out the the picture and the new back ends the pendulum will swing back the other way in favour of the likes of Manor, Promatecme etc.
Has anyone mentioned the suggestion that Carlin may or may not have had some form of Steering Biased Braking in 2001?

Oh you cynic rlinter
mind you i had heard that bias braking thing as well
with a more level playing field, could we be heading for a classic year of F3?
One of those that people will look back on and say, "look at all those drivers that did F3 together in one year"

Kerr to test for ADR
What a load of rubbish being said on this thread about Carlin! I thought this was a site for knowledgable serious F3 enthusiasts! Carlin's sister company is the UK Dallara agent, Carlin employ ex F1 engineers in their team. Their Mugen motors are just as Niel Brown build, supply, service, and map them. Any team can have 'flames' if they used the same exhaust system as Carlin do. Rival top teams like Manor would use them if there was an advantage in having 'pretty flames'' on the overun! BAR do what!!!!! they've got their hands quite full enough with F1, they have no time or interest in F3 cars! Remember in the 1999 championships Sato only came 4th with Carlin, Manor was the top team in 98 and 99, or did they have?????? get outa here!

A reply to some of the malicious rubbish written by Tim555
1. There are no financial links between Carlin Motorsport, 100% owned by the Carlin family, and BAR.
2. Anthony Davidson's manager is on the main board of BAR and is often seen in BAR clothing at f3 meetings.
3. All Mugen Honda engines in F3 come from the same company, and are maintained by the same technicians.
4. Carlin ran a different exhaust system, which was avalable to all other teams.
5. Jaguar F3 was based in the same building as the F1 team.
6. Takuma Sato is an exceptionally talented young driver, a view shared by most people within the f3 paddock.
