FIA International F3000 more interesting this year?

I wonder, with every team (mechanics, engineer, drivers etc...)starting 2002 with a new unknown car,

Will we see a very interesting close and fair championship ?

Could we see end of the grid drivers be as competitive as others?

Will drivers who best understand car setups be quicker to get ahead of the pack?

Will others teams try to acquire gathered data from Coca-Cola Nordic Racing/Lola/Avon pre-season testing so than can try to set up the new Lola B2/50 accordindly before the start of the 2002 season ?

it's a gorgeous car, and it deserves a good championship. unfortunately, it won't get good racing. one make wings and slicks championships tend to produce really bad overtaking chances. surely it would have been more smart to reduce the aerodynamics on the car, so at least there's a slight chance of some overtaking?

i'm not sure how the series stands in terms of status, but it's really interesting to see the kids who have the most business and pr support behind them as well as a lot of talent do battle.

Aren't the changes supposed to be making F3000 cars more like F1? In which case dull racing with no overtaking would be the target.

Bernie wouldn't allow the support event to become more exciting than the real thing.

So you think there will be even less passing this year with this car?

Justin and Warren Hugues seemed to have been faster with the B2/50 than the other guys in the B99/50, so does this mean we are going to see record breaking laps on many tracks this season?

How about accidents, loss of control...?

there will definitely be very little overtaking. the only single make formula to be successful for it's exciting races is formula ford, as i said, and that has no wingy things.

but the car is just absolutely gorgeous (and will look fantastic in a petrobras livery similar to this years), and it's obviously taking to the theory that the faster it looks, the faster it is.

as for the notion of more accidents - lola had better take plenty of new cars, because i think the kids will get a little bit carried away with these nice new cars, and the obviously very high speeds they're going to do. it'll be interesting to see whether the new tyres make the car even faster, especially round the wiggly stuff.

I've just stumbled across the 10-tenths forums for the first time and was reading the comments about the new car. Everyone involved at Lola worked like crazy on this project so it's nice to read positive comments from enthusiasts outside of the press (Autosport etc). As far as overtaking goes it's hard to tell, it often depends how much the aerodynamics are upset by the turbulence from the car in front but we won't really know until they're all running together. Justin and Warren were very positive about the handling and feel of the car compared to the old one so it should be well received by the teams. Now the new tyres are tested the cars won't run until January so we'll have to wait until then to see if any records get broken.
