Yep, I have to sypathise here Novi, I think the weekend just past was a bit different, with MGCC having to use people out of there normal role. I'm sorry the girl was dropped in it, I guess with age and experience comes the ability to say no sometimes.
As for next weekend, I'm taking a break. Maybe see you at Caterham time.
Thanks for the praise too, nice to know I'm getting it right occasionally.

i was a trainee on paper for 3 years, as while a student I couldn't guarantee what meetings i'd make it too. I was welcomed at Croft every time, and never had any trouble related to my lack of coloured badges, but I guess they know who I am by now...
(N.B. i'm now 4 sigs away from being an inc, now that I've finally started grading...)

I don't know if you will be welcomed again to Croft. You committed violence to a poor innocent Observer last time we were on Post 16!

WickedWitch I await serverbrainfailure's comments.
Meanwhile I am financially poorer after my trip to Ireland.
And I claim I was innocent before I went onto Delta 12 with you!

Trainees and MSA recognition
Leaving aside garagegirls' experiences, can I try and clarify my understanding of the MSA recognition issue.
The MSA make a distinction between marshals, who they put onto a REGISTER and some marshals who they LICENCE (Clerks, stewards, scrutes, timekeepers, rescue crew, instructors and some others). You can be on both lists.
The REGISTER does not contain any details of people who do not have at least a Course or Specialist grading. So Trainees are not on that list. What Trainees should have from their "Primary Club" is a card (which has the MSA name on it but no pre-printed personal details or number, so it is just a piece of paper). This card should be given to the trainee when they first come to the attention of their primary club. So the Marshal's club will send you one with your joining pack. (I don't know the precise details of how other clubs who administer marshals operate but the end result should be the same. I should just add that it is sometimes very difficult to get hold of the blank cards from the MSA.)
Once the trainee has completed the requirements for upgrading, they send their card off to the grading person for their primary club. (ALWAYS keep a photocopy!) That should result in the issue of a grading (course/specialist) and eventually the MSA will issue a card recognising the new status and a card for continuing the upgrading process and collecting attendance signatures in the grade already held. (This process can sometimes take a long time.)
Clear? - I thought so.
So the MSA do not know about Trainees, only your primary club does.
Just to complicate things further there are soon likely to be some changes to the way in which the scheme operates. We have been urging the MSA to recognise Trainees in some way and to sharpen up their act in dealing with the marshal's register/official's licensing. Time will tell since it mainly comes down to money. (Here you should go and have a read of the competitor threads talking about entry fees. )
Regards
Jim

I think it worth pointing out that there are two different cards! The one with the MSA name on it, printed in green, is the Marshal's Registration & Record Card; trainees receive a copy of this card (or at least I did when I was a trainee) with, as you say, no pre-printed personal details & overprinted 'trainee'.
The other card, the important one as far as trainees are concerned, is the grading card - this is the one you need to get grading signatures!

To go back to basics, I think that the MSA do not regard "Trainees" as Marshals, purely because of administration!! It can cost person hours and a considerable cost to enter all their details onto the MSA database. The Individual Trainee, may only complete one or two Meetings and decide that it is not for him/her. Once the required signatures ahve been gained, then o'k; the MSA can say we have a true Marshal and then place them onto the database.
How many jobs do you go to where you get all your Corporate Clothing, keys to Lockers; keys to doors etc; on your first day. I believe the MSA is just being "canny".
