Handford device or IRL?

What do you think was better for overall racing? The Handford device CART introduced for Michigan and Fontana or the IRL races at the fast speedways, with side-by-side racing?

I'm posting it in the IRL forum because I know the CART fans come here too. (CART fan here)

i love side by side racing...but saftey does come first. but the IRL is safer than CART anyway, (ask me to explain, not that you'll need it.) so lets not give up on the racing yet.

well (as far is i am aware) there have been to fatalities or caerer ending injures in the IRL. some IRL crashes have been big, and the drivers have been coming off with seemingly minor injures compared to what they could have had, so the IRL must be doing something right. but it does need improving tho, but id say there on the right track.

I voted for the Handford device because in my mind, it enabled more drivers to fight for the win. While in IRL, if two cars get side by side and run like that, well, it's almost impossible for the 3rd and 4th place cars to advance. More than anything in the last laps.

Agree with Jordi. Cart's handford device provided better racing than the 1.5 mile IRL oval racing. IRL drivers know that they just have to get 2 side by side up front and the others are screwed.

I really enjoy watching the CART races which utilize the handford device although it's all about staying on the lead lap for 2.5 hours then making your move on the final corner.

on the other hand...

I also enjoy the IRL 1.5 milers, but this season with drivers staying 2 wide for laps at a time everyone is just holding their breath for what the NASCAR folk call "the big one." Thankfully "the big one" never came this year, but it will, and some drivers are going to be seriously injured when they collect half of an insanely big 30 car field next year.

Also, I want to meet the spotter in the IRL that always finds debris 25 laps from the finish or when the leaders pit window opens up! Sure, it makes a nice little commercial free shoot out, but its becoming routine(uh-oh, tv commercial is scheduled in 30 seconds, look there's a hot dog wrapper--yellow for debris on the racetrack), at least show a truck circle the track a couple of times!
