ive heard that the driving part is fairly easy, although I have seen someone fail it. main thing is that you can lap safely, smoothly and near enough on the right line.

There is tuition throughout the day. They build you up to it. It was an enjoyable day.

I took my ARDS test at Mallory Park last year and they all made me very welcome. It was an enjoyable day. I Passed! and now race in the XJS Challenge.
Make sure you study the Video carefully that you get with the ARDS pack, and LEARN your flags. And you will be fine.

I did mine at Brands, I did the tuition bit at the race school too, which made it easier as you've basically been doing the driving part all morning (in the test I think I only did 2 laps then got told to pull in as I'd passed).
The written/multiple choice test is very easy. We got to watch the video right before it, as said earler watch that and learn your flags.
Oh, and don't forget to take your valid medical and anything else they ask for (driving license) a few people were sent away when I was there for forgetting these and a couple of them had come quite a long way.

I took mine in 92 or 93 (92 I think) and then cos I went travelling for a couple of years they said Id have to retake it because I was unable to keep my licemce up to date. What a rip-off !

Did you hear any more about this? I tried their website to no avail.... if I dont have to take my ARDS again I might get one, but I dont fancy undergoing that trauma again - the sight of Richard Dean desperately searching for his sunglasses on the floor of an Astra as I attempted to land the thing after an attempted straightlineing of the final corner will live with me a long time. Still to be fair to the guy his only comment on my exam papaer was "bit wild"...

I took my ARDS last week ( and failed, drove like a blind man!!!) there was a guy taking it who was racing up to a few years ago so I don't think it has been scrapped for ex-licence holders bu tdon't quote me.

I Have recently done my ARDS test, after sprinting for a few years. I have to say that in the time leading up to the test my feelings were a mixture of fear of cocking up badly, having been put down as second driver in a one hour race the following weekend, and feeling that the "course" was a likely to be a waste of money, as so many people say it is.
Well believe me it wasn't! I did the course at Thruxton, somewhere I have never driven. Paul Coomb was my instructor, my time on track was turned into a short but intense coaching session. Whole thing was excellent - so was the race at Snetterton! Thanks Paul.
