Ideal F1 schedule

Suppose, there are no Bernie's or Max's and you are asked to compose your favourite F1 schedule and the number of GP's would have to be limited to 20 rounds. What would be your favourite schedule?

Mine:

2. MALAYSIA - Sepang
3. INDONESIA - Sentul
4. INDIA - ??
5. MONACO - Monte Carlo
6. UK - Silverstone
7. CANADA - Montréal
8. USA - Indianapolis
9. MEXICO - Mexico-City
10. FRANCE - Le Castellet
11. GERMANY - Nürburgring
12. BAHRAIN - ??
13. RUSSIA - Nagatino Island
14. BELGIUM - Francorchamps
15. ITALY - Monza
16. BRAZIL - Interlagos
17. ARGENTINA - Buenos Aïres
18. CHINA - Shanghai

14 fly away races will never wash with the teams - they'd whinge no end about travel costs and logistics...at least it'd stop them having time to test and update the cars...

1. USGP EAST: Watkins Glen with the armco moved back quite a bit, and new facilities. And new ownership, instead of ISC. That's even years. Odd years, it'll be at Virginia International Raceway.

2. PREMIO MAGNÍFICO DE MEXICO: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

3. PRÊMIO GRANDE DE BRASIL: Interlagos in the old, full configuration even years, Brasilia and Rio trade off on odd years.

4. JAPANESE GRAND PRIX: Suzuka even years, Motegi odd years.

5. PACIFIC GRAND PRIX: Revised and extended Changwon Circuit in South Korea even years (photo here: http://www.f3korea.net/eng/photo/ima.../ground_21.jpg), Sepang odd years.

6. BELGIAN GRAND PRIX: Spa-Francorchamps.

7. GROßER PREIS VON DEUTSCHLAND: Revised and extended Lausitzring.

8. FRENCH GRAND PRIX: Rejuvenated Autodrome du Linas-Montlehery (massive 7-mile track near Paris).

9. EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX: Alternating between Jerez in Spain and Estoril, in Portugal.

10. GRAND PRIX DU MONTE CARLO: Monaco

11. GROßER PREIS VON ÖSTERREICH: Revised A1-Ring.

12. Italian Grand Prix: Monza

13. CZECH GRAND PRIX: Brno

14. EIFFEL GROßER PREIS: The FULL Nurburgring, with the GP Strecke leading out onto the Nordscliefe. Modifications consist of a repaving job to pave up to the Armco in some sections and eliminate the jumps, the barriers moved back where possible, the track widened a foot on each side, "soft walls" installed in some particularly dangerous sections, along with fencing in said sections, and the Karousel and Mini-Karousel re-profiled into conventional steeply banked corners. The old narrow banking is starting to come apart, and even 20 years ago wasn't useable by Group C cars.

15. FINNISH GRAND PRIX: No idea where to hold it, but after all the drivers they've put in F1, they deserve a Grand Prix.

16. BRITISH GRAND PRIX: Brands Hatch even years, Silverstone odd years.

17. CANADIAN GRAND PRIX: A rotating schedule of Montreal, Mosport, and Mont-Tremblant.

18. USGP WEST: Laguna Seca, possibly alternated with Willow Springs (with revised facilities and fresh pavement) or Long Beach.

19. ARCTIC GRAND PRIX: Would require brand new road courses based near Seattle and Vancouver. Seattle on even years, Vancouver odd.

20. AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX: Bathurst Mount Panorama.

Jeez... I'd have put in Argentina if I'd had one more pick.

You'd be hard pressed getting a Grand Prix car through the dipper...unless you modified the track, and you'd be shot by Australian motor racing fans if you tried to that.

Imagine Montoya, Schumacher or Villeneuve winding along this section of the track, the esses at the top:

Hey, it's a points-paying event! They can come or stay home, it's their choice!

Though I must say, it wouldn't hurt to add just a little bit of width to the track, likewise with the Nurburgring.

But either way, it's such a spectacular track, how can anyone justify a street race when that circuit's there?!

Lord, you can just see the chicane Bernie would want wedged in the middle of Caltex Chase.

There's not a lot I'd add, to be honest, to Lee Janotta's list. I think that sums up what's missing from Formula 1 these days. Although on mature reflection, following on the great tradition of the San Marino GP held at Imola, I would like to nominate Donington Park as the venue for the inaugural Welsh Grand Prix.

And that bit of bitumen is after one of the most exhilirating bits of bitumen anywhere in the world, from Reid Park, through Sulman Park, McPhillamy Park (one of the best corners anywhere) and down to Skyline.

An ARCTIC Grand Prix near Vancouver??? Were you a geography major, Lee?!

We're lucky if there's snow on the ground for more than a few days each year!... And having lived in Inuvik, I know ARCTIC!!

I'd love to see a race anywhere in the vicinity. Our street course is pretty wide, F1 would like it here.
