Death At Wakefield Park Race Meeting
Earlier today during a motor race meeting conducted at Wakefield Park, near Goulburn, New South Wales, a driver was involved in an incident where he stopped his vehicle beside the circuit. The vehicle was not involved in any form of collision.
Vehicle recovery crews responded and found the driver unconscious in the car. Emergency crews were immediately dispatched to the scene. The driver was conveyed by ambulance to hospital where he later died.
Family members of the driver were at the circuit and accompanied him to hospital. The driver was Frank Hurt, aged 63 years, from the New South Wales south coast.
At this juncture it is not clear what has caused the death.
The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS), the circuit operator and race meeting organisers are working with the relevant civil authorities to investigate the incident.
CAMS, on behalf of the motor sport community, offers its sincere sympathy to the driver's family.

My goodness, two deaths in practically 1 weekend. Like all of the racing tragedy we have witnessed this year, i would like to express my sadness as a result of this problem.
Even though this was not a 'racing' incident, im sure Frank died doing what he loved best.

I don't think I will gete into any trouble for saying this....but Franks car had a few <cough> oil leaks on Sunday and he only just made the grid for the race in which he passed away.
While he was on the grid, with the car being carefully checked, he sppoke to Graeme Ellacott (Wakefield Grid Chief) and asked if he would be allowed to start - Graeme checked and said 'No worries' - Franks reply was simply - 'Thank God for that!'
Yes - you are correct - he was doing something he loved and, unfortunately for his family, passed away whilst partaking in that love he had - motor sport.

Well, as others have said, we can take solace in the fact that at least he went out doing what he loved best
Still, it's always said whenever anyone dies, so I extend my sympathies to those effected.

I was down there on the weekend and it was indeed very sad. When i saw the car and there was no damage i figured that he may have had a heart attack or something, and sincerly hoped he would be okay...
It's terrible news to hear that he passed away, my thoughts are with his family and friends...

Apologies as I forgot to post this before.
The official cause of death for Frank was a blockage causing the heart attack during the event Frank was racing in. Goulburn Hospital confirmed this during the week after Frank's death.
The hospital also reiterated that there was nothing that could have been done to save Frank - the officials - track and medical - on the spot did everything possible but would NOT have been able to save him.
I had heard a few whispers that certain things were being said to lay blame and that some officials were blaming themselves for not getting to his car quick enough - but none of this would have helped.
My final comment on this - the notice, as I posted it, was exactly as issued by CAMS. I have heard a couple of whispers about the thread title - believe me I did NOT like it but I post media releases as issued by whoever sends them out. In this case I was tempted to change it, however did not. I did NOT like the wording and have made my objections known to this use of such a terse heading.

The problem is - when a release is made I shouldn't have to alter it in any way. I often receive releases from AVESCO and, to be honest, they are one of the worst I receive (there is one teams releases which, despite the massive budget the team has, look like they have been written and put together by a twelve year old..).
In the case of CAMS, they used an ob viously inflammatory heading with this and, with hindsight, maybe I should have changed it in deference to FRANK Hurt - RIP.
