Goodwood Revival - who is going?

Not long now until the greatest and best meeting of the year - September 5/6/7th at Goodwood Motor Circuit, just down the road from the house. Lets hope that global warming hangs on to make it 'Glorious Goodwood'. It would seem that this will be the busiest one yet with attendance expected at the 100,000 mark.

Is anyone going? If so are you competing, marshalling snapping or spectating? And if you are, will you be wearing period clothing? Must pop down to the charity shop to get my 'new' old attire.

By far the best meeting in Europe if not the world so if this year is to be your first visit to the revival you are in for a real treat. Totally different from the Festival of Speed. The circuit, the cars, the crowd, the aircraft, the atmosphere - it looks, smells and sounds how motor racing used to be. A camera is a must. Can't wait!

I definitely hope to be there for the first time, but I have no desire to dress up (sorry!). I did that at the Le Mans Classic last September and fried in my jacket and tie......

Are there any days on which you can't get in without fancy dress?

I'll be racing in the Glover Trophy in a 1961 Assegai. You're both welcome to drop by and say hello.

Andrew: I'd like to speak to you anyway about doing a painting for me at some stage.

Ayes you can get in on all three days without dressing up, but it will mean you cannot go to certain areas without it. Normally the startline etc.

Ayse - you do not have to dress up, infact many of the spectators do not, but walk around the infield and you won't get in the paddock without a jacket and tie. But you can see the cars clearly over the low paddock fence. Those who turn up wearing modern F1 tee shirts, jackets, caps etc might feel a little out of place.
A bit like going to the proms with a Metallica tee shirt on!

One day I've promised myself I'll go there either racing or spectating. (It was thw first track I took my own racing car out on). This year I'm flying back to the UK on the Saturday, and getting the car and stuff sorted for Spa. So I wish you all well.
Ian,

Are you doing the FJ Lurani race at Spa?

I'll be there on Sunday, with KRT917, filming and spectating. I won't be in period attire. Contrary to what we read in the car mags, most people do not dress up in period costume. It's mostly those who spend their time around the paddock area that are attired 'appropriately'!

I will be there all three days - Friday snapping in the paddocks, Saturday walking around the track, and Sunday soaking up the atmosphere and watching the racing. I'll be 'appropriately attired' so I can make use of the paddock passes I've got.
It really is the highlight of my motorsport year. Things I'm already getting excited about for this year are:

Berger has just 'confirmed' his attendance, but not his car. Hope this comes off and they get him in a 250GTO.
Mass racing the D50, hopefully agianst a more representative and reliable R&G Trophy entry.
Sir Stirling in a DBS3 (I think).

we've been for the last 4 years either competing or spectating, and we've always been 'tweeded up' or at least a cravat and chorduroy trousers

as its got busier it seems to have attracted more 'period toffs' and more 'F1 capped slak jaws in awe' in equal measures.

definitely one of the best events about though

I'll be marshalling for 3 days.. no need to dress up (lots don't - me for one!), but you won't make it into the paddock area.

Having read whose driving, it should be an epic weekend.
