I saw the last ten laps of the AMA Superbike race at the all new Barber Motorsports Park just outside of Birmingham, Alabama yesterday. The track looked fantastic. Long flowing corners, long rolling hills and a corkscrew-esque chicane. The downhill chicane was not as blind or sharp as the infamous corkscrew at Laguna Seca, but the bikes looked awesome carving across the curbs through there. The long turn leading onto the front straight encouraged full throttle through and offered up nice terminal speeds on the front straight.
From what I have read, the main grandstand offers 85% viewing of the entire circuit as it winds through the forested hills. The crowds looked promising but not up to standard as of yet. I know that FIA track designers were involved in the initial design and the track has been FIA approved. Kudos the owners of the circuit! 'Bout time we had a new state of the art road circuit.
