Champ Car World Series looking ahead
Associated Press
2/12/2004
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The new Champ Car World Series is on the verge of winning two battles.
On Friday, owners Gerald Forsythe, Paul Gentilozzi and Kevin Kalkhoven are expected to close a deal that will put the open-wheel series back on track. They won a bidding war for the former CART series in bankruptcy court two weeks ago.
Next week, the new series probably will announce that Jimmy Vasser will continue racing in the renamed series.

I'm really sorry, but why when I looked at that picture, did I think Larry, Curly and Moe?
This isn't intended as a slam, so I apologize in advance if you take it that way.

Probably because smiles at Champ Car HQ have been rare the past year.

Both the IRL and Busch series offered him a chance to drive on their circuits, but Vasser declined, hoping CART would emerge from bankruptcy and race this season.

CART deal closes today
Final papers are scheduled to be signed today at Championship Auto Racing Teams' local headquarters, completing the asset sale of CART Inc. to a group of team owners.
CART spokesman Eric Mauk said nothing formal is planned and none of the three new owners is in town. The transaction will be completed without fanfare by fax machine.
There will be a season and there will be racing in less than 90 days." -- PG

Something big is holding it up, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

I can hardly wait to see the golden arches over the doors at Champ Car headquarters.

With a drive thru - I'll take a Lola, Ford, Four Bridgestones and a Big Mac, Super Size Fry with a Sprite please. Don't forget to throw it in a bag as I'm taking it with me.

Series continues to pursue LV race
Champ Car co-owner explores potential hosts
By JEFF WOLF
REVIEW-JOURNAL
Paul Gentilozzi, one of the owners of the Champ Car World Series, is intent on staging a race in Las Vegas this year.
Gentilozzi said a week ago that he has met with two Strip hotel-casinos about hosting a race on a temporary street circuit that would not disrupt regular traffic.
"We want to be in Las Vegas this year," he said last Friday after splitting the day between meetings in Chicago and New York.
The series, formerly CART, isn't likely to race on the 1 1/2-mile tri-oval track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Gentilozzi said the Las Vegas event would be in the fall as the penultimate race or season finale.
Gentilozzi and fellow CART team owners Gerald Forsythe and Kevin Kalkhoven purchased CART's assets after last season. The new series is set to begin April 18 at Long Beach, Calif., and will have at least 11 events with the possibility of 16 total.

Although a street race would likely be more economically viable, I really was holding out hope for another oval.

OH, me TOO! It's a beautiful track! BUT, the banking is WAY too steep, so you would be looking at another Texas problem, I do believe.
Why don't we ask one of the drivers? I'm sure one or 2 lurk in here....

They should bring back that old Caesar's Palace autocross track, and have MotoCRock package it with a Celine Dion concert.
