Roland Ratzenberger drove V8's ?
I was just browsing Roland Ratzenbergers new site www.roland-ratzenberger.com and as the site is in German and i cant speak the language I thought I'd have a look at the photo gallery.
Sitting in his gallery is a picture of apparently him driving a VL commodore , it's either a Group A car or a sports sedan Im not sure but here is the link anyway.
the cars behind certainly look more like sports sedans anyway.
I know he came to bathurst once 87 I think in a BMW M3 but had no idea he drove anything else , so my question is does anyone know anything about this pic , what car is it ? what track is it ? and what it was all about ?
CHEERS

Looks like a TWR-kitted 'Plastic Pig' VL Commodore to me
I presume from the wheels, that this is one of the Roadways cars that were sent to Europe, suitably updated

If you look at the car behind the Commodore, it doesn't look like Group A car.... nor do these:

Some look more like Trans Am cars, so I'd say it was some sort of "open" sedan/touring race, or what we in Aussie and NZ would call sports sedans.
Don't know the track, but the lead Mustang in that second picture, seems to have the letters "GSM" and "NMT"... two mobile phone systems, the NMT system being used in Nordic countries in the 80's and early 90's.... which might imply the race was in a Nordic country or at least northern europe.

Roland did have a run in Alan Docking's ex-Grice Roadways VK over in England in 1987 (just during a test day, I don't think he did an actual race) and, from memory, enjoyed it quite a bit.

wasn't it Roland that was supposed to drive for HRT at Bathurst in 95? His wife was either sick or pregnant and he didn't come - this gave some kid called Lowndes a shot at the spare seat.

You're thinking of Rickard Rydell, who was signed as HRT's 4th driver in 1994 but missed Sandown, and after Sandown was told that his services weren't required...

Didnt Roland drive a BMW tourer at Adelaide in the tourer support races (sponsored by Bob Jane T-Mart)?

I'm pretty sure Gerhard Berger did in 1985, not sure about Roland though.
