Eurocup Donnigton
Italiaracing is showing Mike Conway as having finished 25 seconds behind the winner at Donnington. Is this the case ?
If so it must be a sad reflection on the quality of the british field?

Not necessarily a reflection on the British field at all.

he was rather good, totally ran away with it. very very good drive.
it did very much bring into question the other competitors though. they were absolutely all over the place. one big pack behind him, and falling off, one after another, then getting back on the track and falling off again. conway just cruised it.
perhaps because it wasn't an "important" meeting? he didn't have any championship pressure did he?

Why did everyone except Speed, Di Resta, Jakes, Kofler, Lerilaakso, and Weber get a 20 second penalty in the first race and why did 3 get excluded?

Only saw the raw results of the first race, so my apologies for jumping to the wrong conclusion.
If MC was that impressive in the wet second race it sounds like he really has raised his game dramatically this year. The wet has always been his weak point in the past.

Di Resta did quite well in the second race, making his way up from 11th to finish third. Conway was brilliant though. If wet conditions have been a problem in the past, they really weren't at Donington. Although he went off in the first race he clawed his way back up the order, and drove very well. In comparison to the rest, his performance in the second race was, to be honest, Schumacher-like. The others were sliding around, he just looked calm, mature, and impressive.
"Bratboy" has come a long way.

For your (be)musement, here is Googles translation from the Italian...
"Mike Conway, in the photo, has brought back up the honor of the English pilots who have enrolled themselves to the European test of the F.Renault to Donington. The rain has given to a hand to Bravo pilot of the Fortec that it knew well where to put the wheels. To beginning contest Fleming and Kochem they guided the group, then Claessens and Conway. Fleming soon is ended in testacoda while Conway marked faster turns to repetition exceeding Claessens and Kochem. Behind it infuriated the fight in a group composed from Pilet, Meijer, Pagenaud and Speed. Rimontavano also Moreau and Of Remains well that they salted to the shoulders of Conway. Kochem mistook and disappeared from the race soon imitated from Claessens and Fleming that is hits to you. Conway pushed fort followed from Moreau and Of It remains that in this order they are you go up yourself on the podio."
So now you know.

Jonathan Lewis speedie!
I thought his drive in the second race was majestic and might just shut a few of his doubters from the British series up!
I thought the standard of driving in the Eurocup was appalling though!

its about time he was cut a bit of slack. the boy is talented end of story. the witch hunt that jonathan lewis seems to have started is getting very boring and very childish.

Well in my opinion he proved a lot this weekend. He is talented, yes he should smile more but hey that was one of the best single seater drives I've seen yesterday.
To fight his way through from the front and then dominate like that was something else. Even before the others started running into each other he was pulling away at a rapid rate!
He had two very average years in 200/2003 but he's really got it nailed now. Why can't we just got behind and support another talented British driver?
