This is off-topic, but I certainly didn't want to start a thread for it. It's just that I find it interesting that Roger Penske is Chairman of the Superbowl XL Host Committee. (Next year in Detroit).
Feb 8's Detroit Free Press has dedicated an entire half of the front-page, including large full-colour picture, all of page six and half of page seven to Penske. The article concerns itself more with his businesses than it does his racing. It does mention that he is worth an estimated $1.7B.

Ed Carpenter's team will be called "Vision Racing". Jay Drake, the 2004 United States Auto Club National Sprint Car champion will also compete for Vision in the IPS.

Good idea to give the USAC champion an IPS drive - now it's up to him to prove himself and open the door for more.

I found this part of the article interesting :
“We’re very excited about this season, and on a personal level, I’m looking forward to the challenge of owning an IndyCar Series team,” said George, chief executive officer of the Indy Racing League and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corp. who recently promoted Brian Barnhart to Indy Racing League president and COO with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day operations of the series.
“We’ll be ready for Homestead, and anticipate a successful season with Ed and Jay driving our cars.”
So it looks as though TG will really be running the team, and not just a figurehead. It seems that he gave up the day-to-day operations to Barnhart so he can run this team.
Nice team logo!

Or maybe TG will provide the PR spin to make it LOOK like he's running the team. In any case, it's nice to hear jut how much passion he seems to have for racing. Say what you will about Ed, but he had too good a rookie season to not deserve a sophmore season - he has speed to tidy up, rather than tidiness to speed up.

Robin Miller has written a very scathing piece about TG's new team.

Very interesting piece, Dad.
Can't really argue with the logic of it.
Tony's "vision" has panned out markedly different to the way it was intended - good luck getting him to admit it though!
The hypocrisy is astounding.

Hypocrisy?
Or remaining flexible because times and circumstances change?
You decide!

Just the usual Miller rant when something happens in the IRL..........
He talks about the IRL spinning things their way, i know he's a journalist but he's just spinning the news to fit his feelings.....

The way I see it, he is fielding one car out of 22...
On the other side of the fence, the "Three Amigos" provided more than one-third of the OWRS field last season...and that is only their teams that they own....that doesn't count any subsidies to other teams to race....

I touched on that in the CC forum yesterday Tim. Basically, if Forsythe or PG or KK did the same thing for a family member I doubt if anyone would comment negatively. At the same time they are still supporting teams in various ways financially.
My understanding here is that, as you state, Ed's team is the only one requiring support on the IRL side of the world - is that correct?
Did you get my pm by the way??
