Bernie, is this the truth?

Has anyone read this article?

http://www.economist.com/displaystory.cfm?story_id=6012

It takes some concentration but as far as I can see, the truth is that everyone has to count their fingers after shaking hands in F1!!!

It also explains wht F1 today is such a boring, non spectacular, non spectator sport. It is because in the eyes of the boss man it is only about making billions at the expense of the enthusiast.

Little to do with Motor Sport and nothing to do with sport.

That's a four year old article - so it's not as if this is a new situation.

In any case, Bernie's done a lot of good for F1, though albeit some bad too.

You need to be very careful before making such an accusation, raul_iulian.

If this pans anything like last year with the Canadian GP, we will hear dozens of versions of the "real" story as time goes on. I suggest signing the petition, and just sit back and let things unfold. Otherwise you'll go batty trying to figure out what is going on behind closed doors. If it's any consolation, Bernie is well aware of the impact that dropping Silverstone will have, and if he can save it, he will. Having said that however, he appears to be ready and willing to play hardball and drop it temporarily for a year or two. I hope that doesn't happen, but imo, thats the worst case scenario.

I think his real motivation is to try and force the teams to accept an 18 race calendar - he will doubtless say that he will include it (even at a "loss making" price) if the teams will allow 18 races.

They did this year.

The question is, will they allow 19!

The age of the article is surely irrelevant. It is a well researched article by an authoritative and highly respected source. The major points made are no less valid today than in 2004, and need to be addressed.
Trivialising the attempts of other forum members to show the history behind the current situation is small minded. I welcome constructive criticism but your personal opinions are vague...what do you mean by the comment "Bernie's done a lot of good for F1, though albeit some bad too". Are you are Sun journalist? Because you certainly can't be a BRDC member!

I don't know waht is the "real situation" but (IMO) the show is declining in the last years (decade?) and the bag of F1's boss is enormously inflated.

There are many conflict of interests between Bernie and F1. One of my favourites was the episode of digital tv.

I'll be happy when Bernie is gone and someone, perhaps less effective in economics terms, arrives. I don't matter at all if F1 is the number one sport in the world or not. What I want is a sport with a reasonable coverage and good sporting action.
