Aussie F3 Round 1, What a cracker!!
hey all,
The openning round of the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship over the weekend was a cracker.
With 16 cars on the grid and 3 Dallara 304's debuting it was some of the best Formula 3 action i have ever seen.
The AGP for the F3's is less then 1 week away with 23 cars expected to hit the track.
Aaron Caratti and Chris Alajajian where joint round winners for the Astuti Competition Formula 3 team in 2 ex-Hitech Dallara 304 Renault Sodemo's
Regards,
Yannick
All the action can be seen at http://www.aussief3.com

Bloody oath.
A top notch weekend of racing, can't wait to see it on TV. I was surprised with the pace of the Astuti cars during the weekend, we'll see if they can continue that during the year.
Trimble did well in the 2nd race to keep his head and hold out Caratti (who drove well through the field after stalling).
The rookies were quite impressive. Trimble, Berryman, Sofi, etc all look pretty handy. Shame about the seemingly powerless thing that Tim Macrow carried earlier in the weekend, though

I think Alajajian is a superstar in the making. He's only very young too. Would love to see him get a crack OS at some point - after he's done the business here of course.

Chris certainly has a good turn of speed, I think he has shown that and he has come to grips pretty quickly with F3 by the looks of things. I hate to say it, but I think the bigger test will be how long he can go without being involved in an incident with someone else.
Anyone got predictions for the AGP? I reckon Barton Mawer will figure strongly, if not take out the weekend. Will be a good one either way.

Oh yes. I can't figure out which part had me on the edge of my seat the most. The first 3 laps by the Safety Car or the next 4 that came immediately after that.
Unfortunately for those without 04 model cars, it looks like their season is stuffed before it even gets started. The new cars have upped the game (and costs) considerably, and this was at a track where the aero doesn't even play a big role. I wonder how many 01 cars will bother turning up at Phillip Island or Eastern Creek...
Good to see Alajajian running quick from the start. He (and the other 04 cars) will only get quicker as the year goes on. Provided they get their engines rebuilt by the right people...

Hasn't Caratti come along way! I'm a bit disappointed though, as Crash Caratti had a ring to it!

That's why the '04's were so good at Wakefield.

I'm not sayin' nothin' about that!
It was a pity to see Macrow (a talent worthy of better) have so many problems though........

I think he think's he's already one! A ot of learning to be done there and I'm not sure if he will where he is.
A "solid" start to the season with good grids and some good racing. Contrary to other opinions stated on this forum, the AGP racing was good right up until the last raced which was rained out. Pity about Chris, get well soon.
A couple of notable exceptions, though. this has to be the first season that the Coombs' haven't entered.
