Max Mosely Insult
Max Mosely states and I quote from ITV F1 site on BAR issue
“It’s the kind of thing people do in low-grade club racing. It’s crude and primitive, it’s not sophisticated electronics.”
I don't know about anyone else but I find this most insulting to all the club racers who turn up to race week in week out at great personel expense, and put on a fantastic show for the general race public.
It has anoyed me enough to put a thread here, as normal I just read other peoples rants.
Thanks for listening to my ranting, is anyone else insulted by this or is it just me

I agree. Club racing is a damned sight more entertaining than F1, the people involved are more approachable and race for the sheer fun of it.

Crikey, read the context. Max is saying that the technology (and the cheating) is more sophisticated in F1. Which it is. He is right.
At no point does he say one is better than the other. I am not insulted by it in anyway. If you are insulted by it, then I presume, you get insulted very easily.

Let me put it this way. If a snooker player mis-hits a shot and the ball jumps up, and a commentator says "that's more like what you'd usually see in golf" is he demeaning or bad-mouthing golf? No, he's making a slightly snide comment agaisnt the snooker player in question.

Ah. Misread the context. Good point that Adam. In that case he is right.

The point I was making that he refers to club racing as low grade,
I feel that per pound club racers put on a far better show than F1 ever will.

Nothing low grade, primitive or crude about the cheating that goes on in club racing. How dare he?

I was a little OTT, sorry.
Actually he said "low grade club racing" which infers there is high grade club racing. He didn't say club racing is low grade. I don't think Max meant anything by it, his point was valid - BAR had a car that was a little like a silly* underweight car in a club race.
Yes, per pound you are probably right. I like them both to be fair and I must admit it narks me when we have to try and justify one by putting the other down.
*I am not saying cars in a club race are silly.

That's one inference, the other is that club racing is low grade.
Whatever, as Max has completely failed to police the high tech cheating, he should be delighted to have the opportunity for his men to use a hoover and jug.

Thats Ok Adam,
Your right and in my own way thats what I was trying to say.
We take our racing just as serious' but with not quite the same budget and resources as they do. And should not be put down just because we are club racers.

When I read this quote hours ago the negative thought never even crossed my mind and still hadn't.

Even if you want it to mean "club racing is low grade" then it depends on what you mean by grade. It is a lower 'level' - club racing is mainly amateurs racing their own cars. That is a lower grade than a professional series. That isn't to say there isn't more overtaking in club racing (indeed it is my opinion that the overtaking comes from this very status - most overtaking comes from a mistake (in all grades) and there is less consistency in the lower grades) or other good attributes (say variety of cars, full grids...). However I don't think we have to go this far.
We shall disagree on whether that remark has any significance whatsoever.

The post was purposely phrased like that! I am not quite sure what I have said that is wrong. It may be in the semantics of the words, which is my point.

I agree. Max Im sure is using a slight arrogance and turn of phrase that could be misread all ways. Without holding my spade in hand, Im sure he wont be seen spectating at Lydden in the next few weeks, it does not interest him. When youve reached his pinnacle it must be difficult to put the jeans on and stand in the rain with no one holding your brolly.
