sgw2 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
TV Ratings at Texas (better anyway)

There appears to have been a bounce, perhaps due to Danica. Its good for cable, but still too low, yet very encouraging. They didn't see much from Danica, but they did get a good race that was pretty clean.

Quote:
ESPN’s coverage of the IndyCar Series’ Bombardier Learjet 500k on June 11 from Texas Motor Speedway had a ratings increase of 150 percent, according to Nielsen Media Research, making it the highest-rated and most-viewed IndyCar Series race in the network’s history.

Saturday’s prime-time race coverage garnered a 1.0 cable rating, the equivalent to 880,000 households and more than 1.3 million viewers.

One thumb up

According to Nielsen Media Research, the race produced a 200 percent increase in ratings for adults (18+) from 0.2 in 2004 to 0.6. The rating for men 18-34 increased 100 percent (from 0.2 to 0.4). Females 18+ saw a 300 percent increase in rating (from 0.1 to 0.4) and males 18+ saw a 200 percent increase (from 0.3 to 0.9).

I think those numbers are pretty respectable, especially for cable. The big mistake was not doing everything possible to get that race on ABC. It's a no-brainer, if you tuned into the Indy 500 there, you expect to see the next race there as well, and many new/old or casual fans wouldn't know to look for the race on ESPN.

There are probably a good number of new fans now, but I think the bump was probably due more to older IndyCar fans seeing the Indy 500 for the first time in years, mainly because of Danica, and it was rousing enough to get them excited and nostalgic about the good old days of the Andretti's and Unser's, Johncock, Rutherford, Ongais, Carter, Mears, Sullivan and Foyt, and so many others, that they may be hooked again to this style of racing...

ESPN's rating for the Kansas race was 1.1

Just under 1 million households....

On a holiday weekend...

Not bad....

Does anyone know the viewing figures here in Britain. Obviously it will be generally rubbish, but Dan's efforts and the Danica factor may have increased the figures over last year. There is at least me!

Since Danica is on the front row at Nashville, let's see how the ratings go tonight....

Provided it dies not get postponed for rain....although the last time I checked, there was a 40% chance of scattered rain or storms....

Quals were rained out with a 60% chance yesterday evening...
