Group C cars list
Hi there everyone,
I'm trying to compile a complete list of all the Group C/GTP cars that ever raced or tested.
What I've got listed so far is here
If you have any cars to add to my list, or questions to ask I'd be really greatful if you'd do so.
Thanks,
Alex

If anybody can be bothered to update / correct all these lists then either:
a) You need a girlfriend
b) You hate your girlfriend / wife

Could be worse, he could be really into something extremely sad like Capital Ships from the early 20th century.
Alex that sounds like a good little project. Unfortunately the link doesn't work for me How complete do you think you are at the moment.
I also presume you know of this site: http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo_wcm.html

From a first, quick look your list is pretty incomplete and has some mistakes: Porsche 962 was the GTP car, not the Group C, the Group C was 962C. The Porsche 936 was a Group 6 car, only the modified Joest Porsche 936C had a roof and was eligible for Group C.
You missed the Nissan P35 and the Jaguar XJR-17 and also the three other versions of the Peugeot 905 beside the mentioned 905 Evo bis. Also the last Spice Group C, don’t remember the name, is missing.
The mentioned March 92S doesn’t exists as real car, only a model existed or still exists

List updated accordingly. Thanks for the help guys.
Adam, it should be ok now, I just had a little trouble earlier. I do know of that site yes, but thankyou anyway. I've been working my way through it adding the various cars to my lists.
If anybody can think of any more speak up !
Erm.. yeah thanks Splendid Cat

A quick check of 83 shows -
The Jag XJR-5 was the Grp 44 car and should be GTP
Rondeau M379 also raced as C2
Is the Ford 83C more normally known as a C100?
Tiga GC284 - C2
1984
Cougar C12 Porsche
I think there is quite a bit of work to be done, the RSC site is going to give you most of the answers, good luck.

Alex, you might find Michael Cotton's 'Directory of World Sportscars Group C and IMSA Cars from 1982' published in 1988, helpful, if you haven't already got a copy.
When the Sportscar folks have finished with it, it might be worth moving the thread to Motorsport History to see if you get any more comment/info!

Also, if you can get hold of a copy, it's worth looking at Endurance Racing 1982-1991 by Ian Briggs, published by Osprey in 1992, which has a directory of cars raced (and a few which didn't...)betwen 1982-90

You could also add the RLR 962C Gti . That was certainly radical enough from the normal 962 .

The XJR-16 was a GTP car, it was a development of the XJR-10 with a biplane rear wing like the XJR-14.
The XJR-17 was an IMSA Lights car. It was basically a non turbo XJR-10 with an XJR-14 front.
Theres also the XJR-12D, which is a Daytona 24hr car. I believe the '93 XJR-12D was a Group C model developed for Le Mans that year, but never raced. It ran Daytona '93.
All three of the above mentioned cars race in the Group C/GTP series.

What total number of cars do you think they'll be? It'll be interesting to see how many there were over the ten or so years of Group C.

So far I have 337!! List is not complete though - I'd expect that at least another 20 need to be added.
