Been working on my technique - your thoughts

Hi there,

I have been photographing motorsport for approx 2 years now. I am using a Canon 300V Film SLR camera with a Canon 75-300 lenses. I have recently bought a Olympus E-500 digital SLR, but it has not yet arrived from my supplier.

I looked through my albums recently and noticed all of the cars in my pictures looked stationary, therefore I have decided to play around with the shutter speeds to improve my technique. This goes against the grain as I was always taught that when taking a photo everything should be in focus.

I have a copy of the Motorsport photography book by Tony Pleavin and this has helped me alot.

I'm trying to do the same & must see if I can find that book. The first one's nice & sharp, but might as well be parked.. The second has more motion & the angle makes it look more interesting as well.

Tim i had exactly the same outcome with my photos at first, i have been into Photography just over a year now. Since going Digital this year it has really helped, you can improve your shots on the spot by reviewing them and seeing what you did wrong, unlike with film SLR. Hopefully below are two shots of mine, one taken in the Summer of last year and one from this weekend. I like to think I have improved also

Looks like you need to click on them to get them at a more suitable size.
Reducing their original size has lost some clarity but you get the idea. I have Tony Pleavin's book to, its very informative, I like how he has included sample images and put next to them the camera setting he used.

Hi there,

I suppose it came from my parents, when taking photos on holiday it was never a good photo unless everything was clear and sharp. This was carried over into my adult life taking family snapshots etc, now I am taking more and more photos its nice to work on the creativity.
