No, he was struggling.
If he was merely holding up Alonso, he must have very good judgement of Renault's pit calls.

I think t6hats when team radio makes a huge difference, usual we would hear what was going on.
I really don't think coverage on the telly was good

I think calling in Alonso was a pretty serious mistake on behalf of Renault. The instant decision of Ferrari to pit schumi on the very next lap saved him and was the obvious way to go I think.

IMHO, Michael was clearly struggling. I think his struggling pace was 1:26.5-1:27.2 (ish). Ferrari knew they had no hope of staying ahead if things took the usual route (i.e. Alonso stopping later).
Thus Michael backed off into the 28s to try and goad Renault into stopping early, as it represented the only opportunity to stay ahead. Put it this way: when Michael suddenly went faster by, IIRC, 0.7s after Alonso pitted I was not in the slightest bit surprised.
Renault made an obvious error bringing Alonso in. It may have been doable had they switched him to a splash-and-dash.

You have an odd year number system there. In the Gregorian calendar it was year 2005.
Yes and yes. He was struggling and he was tryingto keep Alonso behind! The slw pace did actually aid him as it meant he didn't come up to as many back markers.
I think the slow pace also make Renault jumpy.

The teams can chose what they don't want us to hear. It is unlikely they wanted any crucial information going out then.

Nope, the other thread is copied and pasted from this one. That is why I put a line of asterisks after it in the other thread.

Great display of mastery. Senna used to say that "Closing the gap is the easiest part, but to overtake is a different story"

Michael kept his cool while under pressure I feel he drove well, while Alonso was the one making mistakes behind him! Pat Symonds was wrong when he said to Ted Kravitz, Alonso only made one mistake! I counted at least 3!
