John excellent pictures and interesting to me, of my car in heavy roll, by the way the near side damage was sustain at Spa whilst I was watching from the pit wall.
Louis really deserved his victory, and the oil was put down by an hillman imp,(not for the first time!a talking to me think's) has a result some lovely cars were badly damaged, but like you say the marshal did a great job. |

Race 2 - Classic F3 Championship
Great to see you here Jonathan.
A Ralt RT1 qualified on pole and an RT 1 won the race but it was not the same car. Keith White claimed pole, a half second ahead of Richard Trott, but despite putting in fastest lap, finished 6th (there must be a story there!). On the other hand, Paul Smith in his RT1 qualified 5th but went on to win by 9 seconds, here:- Richard Trott was disappointed to 'only' qualify 2nd, in his Chevron B43, but worse was to come! At the end of the first lap, he came passed last (or almost) - what's the story there, Richard? Anyway, it enabled him to do plenty of overtaking and a fine drive took him to 4th, with second fastest lap of the race:- 'Ye tak the wide line, and I'll tak the tight line, and I'll get the flag, afore ye'! Except .... not, in this case, as Paul Wyeth, in his ex Mansell March 793 finished 10th and Geoffrey Hoodless finished 12th, in his March 803:- The presence of a Jagermeister liveried car in this country is always worth recording. Matthew Sturmer with his GRD 376 finished 17th:- I'm now away for 2 or 3 days, so I'll have to continue this pictorial coverage at the end of the week! |

Dream on Gary you'll have to pay more than that for a sound road car to start from, in fact I've just sold one for more than that ( to finance the winter rebuild) !!!

Thanks for taking a shot of my car John. It was only it's second outing since being completely rebuilt and I was treating it as a test session to find out what additional work was required over the winter. If you have any other pictures of it I would be very interested to hear from you.
Thanks Matthew |

Race 3 - HSCC 70's Roadsports Championship
Matthew, I'll have a look but I think I have a couple only from the same angle.
This was a big grid! Paul Anderson's Gulf liveried Porsche 928 has been gradually improving this season and although he qualified on the second row, he hit the front fairly early on to hold a good but slender lead in a 5 car train:- Charles Barter in the blue Datsun 240Z was the quickest in the field and quickly worked his way to second. However, I don't know how to describe his lunge for the lead, so I won't! Suffice it to say that it left the 928 out wide with a lot of panel damage and Richard Thorne's Morgan Plus 8 with nowhere to go. By the time Barter had got back up to speed, both Paul Conway (Morgan Plus 8) and Julian Barter (TVR 3000M) had gone through, the former into a lead he was not to relinquish. The Barters however did swap places again when the TVR lost a gear. Both Anderson and Thorne got going again and had a great dice for 4th until Anderson pitted with a puncture probably resulting from the earlier incident:- Busy Luffield. Clive Foskett (33) finished 20th in his 240Z, but was passed by all those shown behind; Bill Braithwaite's Elan (12th), Bob Trotter's Escort RS (14th), Steve Cooke's GT6 Mk3 (17th) and Paul Stafford's 240Z (16th). Orange(s) and lemons, no offence meant! John Thomason's Spitfire finished 15th whilst Ross Braithwaite's Lotus Europa finished 13th:- |

Race 4 - Grandstand Motor Sports Tours Historic FF Championship
Neil Fowler placed his Lola T200 on pole and duly delivered another victory. However, he was chased home hard by Nelson Rowe, who, in finishing second, secured him the championship. These two have been the class of the field all season and Fowler, champion for the last few years, was generous in defeat. I'm not going to be predictable and show either, since I'm pretty sure I've posted pics of both before! Instead, here is the sun glinting off David Methley's Ausper T4 which finished 22nd:-
Chris Sharples, Palliser WDF1, leads George Fowler's Macon MR8. By the end they had swapped places and finished 4th and 5th:- This is another racer that apparently wasn't there, presumably through the absence of transponder! Roger Woodbridge in the other Ausper T4. I think that both these T4s may have been appearing in the UK for the first time in many years and both pictures will also be posted in the Ausper chassis thread:- Although Henry Scott's Merlyn Mk11 is here seen ahead of Nigel Bancroft's Crossle, they too had swapped places by the end and finished 6th and 7th. It may come as no surprise to learn that car no 40, Will Schryver's Merlyn Mk20, just hoving into view, finished 8th!:- |

Race 5 - Classic Sports Car Championship
This field included no less than 5 Chevron B8s and 2 B6s, and they all turned up! The front row men Michael Schryver (B6) and Andrew Newall (B8) were the class of the field on pace and soon pulled clear in a monumental dice. Their friendship was tested (I'm sure only briefly!) when Newall tipped Schryver into a 180 spin in a rather speculative dive up the inside at Brooklands. The clearly incensed Schryver (the whole attitude of the car told the story!) put in a string of quick laps to close down the few seconds lost, and recaptured the lead in the same place as he had lost it, putting in the fastest lap (by 4 tenths) in the process. This wasn't quite the end of the story since on what was thought to be the last lap Newall scrambled back into the lead at Luffield, whilst they were both passsing a back marker, only to find that the wrong pair of Chevrons had been given the flag, and the result was taken from the end of the previous lap. That Schryver won was, in my view, anyway, the just result.
Sean McClurg applies correction to his B6 on his way to 8th. The B8 (chassis #81) of Tony Bianchi, which qualified 4th, does not appear on the results sheets (presumably another without a functioning transponder):- Stuart Tizzard in the Lenham Spyder qualified a lowly 19th having only done 3 qualifying laps so it was no surprise to see him move forward. However the pace at which he did so was impressive and he pulled the car up to a fine 4th. Here he is driving around the outside of a great dice between Stuart Leighton (B8) and Michael Hibberd (Lotus 23B), the later (as opposed to the latter) car just winning that encounter to finish 6th by a few tenths. Race 6 - The 'DUO' Derek Bell Trophy Race
Thank you, Esper!
The Derek Bell Trophy had the smallest (16 cars) grid of the day and sadly Marcus Pye was not able to race due to the non attendance of his 'drive' and with a race stoppage after a couple of laps, we further lost Mike Littlewood's March 793, Tim Barry's Trojan T102 and Neil Glover's Lola T300. Neil had been particularly pleased to get onto the second row of the grid, although he expected (as happened) to be passed by one or two of the quicker F2 cars. To add insult to injury, upon returning slowly to the pits, the Lola announced its arrival by catching fire, quickly extinguished, but it wasn't exactly Neil's day! After the restart, Mike Wrigley and Frank Lyons put on a wonderful display of close racing. Wrigley won by half a second, with Lyons taking fastest lap. Here Lyons just has the advantage:- John Monson's lovely old Surtees TS8 ('the rear wing provides no downforce whatsoever, it's purely decorative!') had his hands full staving off John Dunham in his March 712 ...... ...... until this happened! Monson finished 5th and Dunham got going again without losing a place to finish 6th:- James Claridge took his Lola T240 to 7th place:- |

Race 7 - HSCC Classic Racing Cars for Retro Track and Air Trophy
A big grid with loads of close racing. Two drivers who had been in the previous DBT race found the energy to race in this one and were in the thick of it. Ian Gray having finished 9th in the DBT, stayed in his BT30 to finish 3rd, whilst John Monson jumped into his Crossle 19F to finish 5th. In this long shot towards Brooklands, they are seen side by side, behind winner, Matthew Watts in his Brabham BT16 and 2nd place man, Richard Kendle in his BT21B. On the back of the group is Michael Scott who finished 4th in his March 702:-
John Counsell in his BT23C (25) came 6th, Michael Pullen in BT14 (90) came 19th, whilst Christopher Drake came in 7th with his BT6. Where would we be without our Brabhams! 12 years separates the build dates of these cars and it shows! Chris Atkinson in his Merlyn Mk20 laps Ian Robinson in his Autosud, on his way to 12th. Robinson finished 27th. Mike Bromley in Merlyn MkIIA on his way to 17th:- |

Race 8 - The School Garage Historic Road Sports Championship
Another 'pocket rocket' victory here! This time it was Laurence Bailey's Griff which took the honours (incidentally where were those HSCC stalwarts, the Kennedy's - Louise?) although he never had more than about a 5 second lead over the battle for second which raged for much of the race between David Randall in his Ginetta G4 which finished 2nd and Michael Harding in the 'Tatty' Turner which did not finish:-
The MG TFs of Nick Ashman (98) and Peter Edney (88) spent most of the race side by side (and they were like this in qualifying too!) and finished 19th and 20th respectively about 4 tenths apart. Here they are being lapped by the second place battle and you can see why the Turner did not finish and finally pulled into the pits!:- The multicoloured Morgan Plus 8 of Suzanne Sears and the Porsche 911 of Dick Grainger. They finished 13th and 14th respectively:- Tim Burrett's Lancia Aurelia B20 followed by Richard Line's Turner Mk2. They had changed places by the end and finished 21st and 22nd:- |

Incidentally, both the Milano GTs of Mike Eagles and Justin Murphy qualified for Race 8 but neither appeared on the grid. It would be good to know why?

Hi John - the Kennedy's were at Silverstone but we were in spectator mode so "blended" in with the crowd. We were supporting Tony Bailey (Osca MT4) and Laurence Bailey (Griffith) our team mate in the Falcon, both of whom had a wonderful day.
We would have been out but the Griff needs a rumble at the rear investigated and I haven't had my Fulvia mended since the oily mess at Snetterton so hence we were support crew. We are currently repairing the Falcon ready to sell after its minor panel damage at Spa - anyone after a V8 bruiser?! As always the HSCC season finale was a wonderful event and it was terrific to meet up with so many friends. In fact we were busier on our "day off" than when we race! |

Race 9 - HSCC/FJHRA Millers Oils Historic FJ Championship
Great to hear from you, Louise!
Last race of the meeting and this was a great grid of 40 FJ cars of all types. Not sure that 4 pics will do it justice. In this photo, the eventual winner, Michael Hibberd in his Lotus 27 (51) lies 3rd. Just in front of him is Robin Longdon in his Lola Mk5A who eventuallly finished 4th. The leader here is Mark Woodhouse in his Lotus 20 who had a superb duel with Hibberd and was but a tenth behind at the flag, whilst on the back is Barry Westmoreland's Lotus 22 which finished 3rd:- Running wide is Richard Utley in his Caravelle Mk1 (23rd). On his inside Paul Hewes, Lotus 18 (22nd), Jan Biekins, Stangellini (27th) and Roger Dexter's Elva 100 (DNF):- Tim Bishop's rare Sauter finished 20th, whilst on his inside is the Gemini Mk2 (believe me, it is!) of Keith Roach who finished 21st:- Roger Dexter lifts a wheel!:- |

Andrew Robertson finished 14th in his Crossle 4F And, Kevin Musson, 15th in Lotus 18 That's about it. Might get to post a few pics on the Birkett 6 hours next! Last edited by John Turner; 7 Jan 2007 at 11:15. |
