The year is 2007, in an Australian Finals for the Commodore Cup, a driver is pushed off coming out of turn two, and is killed when he is turned, and spun into the Dunlop Bridge supports. Following this accident, Oran Park was schedualed for a redesign. The majour difference is the elimination of the Bridge, and an addition of a new complex, and South circuit.
The new complex includes a FAST set of left handers, culminating in the new turn three, which was the old turn 4, albeit in the other direction. They then follow the track onto the old turn 3 (new turn 5), again, backwards to the original layout. Then the next change, a aright hand hairpin onto the older portion of the track. From there, its the same as the old track, although it has all been repaved, and widened slightly. Another BIG change, is the relocation of the pit lane to the inside of the track, thus getting rid of the EXTREMELY dangerous pit entry coming out of the final corner. In place of the old pit garage/paddock, comes in a new set of Covered Grandstands. The infield has up to datw pit garages, and a new paddock, with an access road that goes under the Dogleg, but still leaves a spectator mound on the outside of the circuit. The seating has been increased, with General Admission spectator mounds all around the circuit, and inside the new South Circuit as well.
The new South circuit is no longer a figure-of-eight style track, it is a simple, 5-turn, counter-clockwise circuit, which is also ample for Stock Car racing as well!
I hope you enjoy my edit of Oran Park. Comments, criticism, and questions are wanted.
Cheers,
Matt.
