Your fantasy touring car meeting format
OK, we've had one about the cars, but this one is about the meetings. I'll put in some examples (see, I love ripping off other threads).
Current BTCC - 3 shortish races over 1 day.
Most V8 Supercars - 3 100km+ races over 2 days.
Clipsal 500 - Two 250km legs.
V8 Endurance races - er, endurance races.
Current SwedishTCC - 1 long race (IIRC)
Current DTM - 1 240??km race.
WTCC - 2 50km races.
Older BTCC - 2 races with mandatory pit stop in each.
Even older BTCC - Sprint race and feature race, equal points in each,
Even older BTCC - 2 races, no pit stops.
I'd prefer sprint race/feature race, but with a couple of endurance races thrown in to make it interesting (for the BTCC and WTCC).

Even older BTCC - Sprint race and feature race, equal points in each
About current DTM, the race format is around 160 km

Sprint race and a pit-stop feature race, same points in each.

I liked the old ETCC, 500km two-driver endurance races.
Either way i prefer a single race on the day, get it all over and done with in one go.

2 races one by one, same length, depending of cars, but about 30-40 minutes. Pit-stops could be. But without 8 positions switching, eventually whole grid switch, which could be funny But it worked in last ETC Champioship seasons, few years ago.

Yes, but that was because six cars were miles ahead of everyone else and stormed through the field in no time.

My fantasy touring car meeting format would be...
At Donington Park..
Race 1, Aussie V8 Supercar 15 lap sprint race.
Race 2, STCC/DTC 25 lap race.
Race 3, S2000 BTCC 15 lap sprint race.
Race 4, DTM 30 lap feature race.
Race 5, 'Historic' Supertouring cars 10 laps race.
Race 6, WTCC 30 lap race.
Race 7, Aussie V8 Supercar 30 lap feature race.
Race 8, S2000 BTCC 25 lap race.
Race 9, 'Historic' Supertouring cars 10 laps race.
Feature races would include Pit stops...
Well that's my dream!

Whatever format you choose, eliminate the rediculous pit stops in the sprint race.

In a Michel Vaillant-comic, he once raced a Sportscarrace, wich took 6 hours, without a driver-change. To make it more interesting, during the last hour or so of that race, a Porche race was started. Now that is interesting. Not very realistic though...
I like the WTCC-format, but they may lenghten the races to 75km. And it would be fun to let them compete in the Bathurst 1000 in their own class, for double WTCC-points.

I know I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, but I quite enjoy the excitement of Reverse-Grid races. So, how about reversing the top 15 for race 2. Only two races a meeting, 125km each(at minimum).

I like the 3 race format they have in the BTCC. However I think it was better in 2004 when they reversed the grid for the 2nd race instead of the 3rd.

i think for reverse grids it should be the whole lot, or not at all. I really dont like the top 8 or 15 or what ever, people should race for points not for grid slots.

I used to love the back to back BTCC races of the early nineties, two races seperated by a ten minute rush to repair the wounds that the drivers had inflicted on their cars. That way you got a bit of tactical/sensible driving in the first race followed by an all-out demolition derby in the second race. Steve Soper was the man back then!
i don't have an issue with reverse grids, just the way they are these days. I remember the old stock car days that the faster guys would start at the back of the field and would often make it to the front before the end of their very short races. Excellent to watch.
How about this? Get rid of the ridiculous success ballast and this reverse grid in race three business, simply start the guy leading the championship in last place on the grid, the guy second in the championship in front of him, and so on. It'd turn things from this ridiculous 'dropping back to eighth' in race one, to an all out race for the flag, the faster guys having to battle like crazy to get to the front. And it'd get rid of the stupid situation you see in the WTCC where a driver has absolutely no chance of winning because he won last time out and has 60kg or whatever of lead in the car slowing him down.

It's based on stock/rod racing, yes, that's precisely the point. It works WELL on the short ovals and there's no reason that it wouldn't work on the circuits. Of course there'd need to be suitable penalties for those who'd just try and ram the others off the track, but that should be the case anyway, shouldn't it..?
