Need manufacturer permission for S2000?
Does a team need manufacturer support or approval in order to build/race a car in the S2000? I recall you needed that in DTM. How about ST? I though Toyota Japan blocked Andy Rouse's attempt to build/race the Corolla, at least initially?

Nope. You need a homoglation from FIA if you're to race in the WTCC though, and that perhaps requires a nod from the manufacteror.

It all depends where you want to race your S200 car. WTCC requires FIA homologation which must be submitted by the manufacturer. National series such as the BTCC will allow local homologation which doesn't need manufacturer backing. The Honda Civic, BMW 1-series, Lexus IS200 and Vauxhall Vectra all race in the BTCC under these rules but wouldn't (currently) be allowed in the WTCC.
ST rules were much stricter, the idea of local homolgation is a recent change. Toyota did initially block Rouse's attempts to build a Corolla. FIA rules also required that homologation was submitted in the country in which the road car was built, which is why Rouse had to go to Toyota Japan rather than Toyota UK, and in the local language, which meant all the documents Rouse had already prepared had to be translated into Japanese.

i don't think you need permission because i'm sure some of th s2000 in btcc like jackson motorsport wouldn't have the budget to make alterations if the team had to

Not sure about that. The Toyota Corolla of Geipel was allowed to take part in WTCC.

Yeah, and the Audi's were allowed in the ETCC race last year as well, which goes under the same (FIA sanctioned) flag.

What I should have said is that those cars would not automatically be allowed in the WTCC. The FIA may accept locally homologated cars if they fully meet the S2000 requirement and there is space available on the grid. In the case of the BTCC Civic, TOCA have granted certain dispensations so it probably doesn't meet those requirements. Not sure about the Vectra, Lexus and BMW.

The Jackson car is an ex works BMW (Andy Prialux's car from 2006.) and not a conversion by them.
