MTECHʼs Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin overcame adversity to score valuable points in their Ferrari 458 Italia in the 7th and 8th rounds of the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship yesterday at the Snetterton circuit, near Thetford in Norfolk.
However, poor grid starting slots combined with a stop-go penalty in race one and a severe braking problem in race two ensured that the points haul from Snetterton was not as high as it otherwise would have been. Nevertheless, on an afternoon when their main title rival failed to score highly, the points they did gain could prove to be very significant with just two rounds of the Championship remaining.
Matt Griffin: "I see today as a bit of a missed opportunity, particularly as we has a real chance I think of a couple of podiums. Unfortunately, we got a stop-go in race one for being fractionally too quick at the changeover and then we had a huge problem with the brakes in race two. It meant that we couldnʼt capitalize on the misfortune of our main rivals, but we did score points and with just two rounds to go the Championship it is still all to play for.”
Mike Edmonds, Team Owner: "Matt and Duncan are disappointed that they didnʼt finish higher today and but for misfortune they would have done. The stop-go incurred in race one was unfortunate but they both put in superb drives from low grid starts."
"Duncanʼs stint in race two when he had to adapt his driving to run with virtually no brakes was particularly good. He could have legitimately parked the car, but with his mind on the title he managed instead to nurse the car for the last 20 minutes or something of the race. The four points he gained by finishing could prove very valuable indeed when the final title calculations are done in October."
