Bathurst - News On The 2004 Reconstruction

Takes a deep breath...........

Well the other excellent thread that was started to check on progess of the reconstruction fell in a heap due to sad actions of a few....so much for time lapse photograpy of the changes and new pits etc

Does anyone have an update on how the redevelopment is going? Is the rain going to delay proceedings? Anything happening up there?

Thanks Gee-Kay
To see the latest images of the redevelopment.... www.bathurst.nsw.gov.au/about/30

Don't know if it is just an optical illusion but the pit lane view from under the bridge looks to be a tad steeper then before ....gotta be an illusion.

Had a look up there today.
Things a certainly moving along!
They have removed the temporary internal supports from most of the garages and some of the upper floors.
Unfortunately all the external scaffolding is still erected so from a distance it still looks the same as a few weeks ago but close up you can now actually see how big the garages are, they are huge!
The electricians have moved in starting to install internal lighting in some of the garages.
All the walls for the last eight garages are completed and it looks like they are getting ready the temporary internal supports to pour the concrete roof.
There is a lot of work being done in the large flat area behind the pit garages and also some very large diameter drainage pipes are in the process of being laid.
A lot of progress has been made on the levelling earth works in the paddock area.

That sounds like they are a head of time. I would like to know if the James Hardie Centre along with the scoring tower is knocked down or are they going to leave that till after the 24hr then knock it down and build another building in its place?

They are still there. All the work stops at the overhead bridge. The Feds were a bit too late with the funding so they stay for this year. They are going to be flat out at the moment just to have pits ready for the race with rain and snow to slow construction.

Do they get a new Medical centre or will the old building that does not meet any FIA rules be OK for a few more years?

That proves where the priorities lie!

VIP boxes before adequate medical facilities!

Everyone used to complain about the pit garages that you could not get a car into, but they don't know (or don't care) about the Medical centre that you can't get a stretcher into!

It is a wooden ramp with a step at the top and when you get in the door there is a bed in the way.
You should be able to wheel a stretcher (not carry) into and out of the centre but it is almost impossible to do.
The wooden ramp gets very slippery when it rains and there is mud everywhere and it gets tracked into the supposedly clean medical centre!

I did two Bathursts working in the medical crew and said that I would never do another!

Morris 1100, you should voice your concerns to Bathurst Council, they may convert one of the new corporate boxes to use as a medical centre for the next two meetings.
If its as bad as you say I am amazed that medical staff have put up with it for the past 25 years.
