Due to its small size, rear drive and V8 option, I'm thinking it was the last car to replicate something like a flathead powered T bucket or '32 Highboy. Gremlin had a stronger body than Vega or Pinto. Better build up potential as a small hi performance car, and quite good looking before the 1973/74 impact bumpers came.
