Mark Webber has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
A1GP at the Olympics

just a easy question ..... Could it happen ..would it happen
it is a true national sport? There are other team sports in ie basket ball rowing why not A1GP?

Yes it could happen, will it happen? Not yet no, Why? Well at the moment there are a few nations out there competing in their nations colours, of course, but are actually run by a team from a differnt nation. If this changes and the nations represented are actually run by teams from their own nation then yes I think it could well join the olympics one day. IMO.

I think the main objection would be that the sportsperson is not under their own steam & would it be fair if somebody lost a medal due to mechanichal failure.

Having said that, they allow toboggoning (sp?) where they rely on an outside influence for speed (gravity) & they allow cycling where if the chain comes off of your bike it's tough luck.

I would love it, but can't see it happening - the other thing is cost, how many cars, engines & tyres would you need (202 countries took part in the last olympics)?

Yes but you dont normally have 202 nations competing in 1 event. How many are there in say Athletics? Id imagine somewhere betweeen 20-40 differnt countries.

Athletics is the easiest, there were competitors from the likes of Afghanistan, the Cook Islands and the Caymans.

Motor racing will not be an Olympic sport because of the presence of motors. Motor boating was in in 1908, that's the alpha and omega of mechanical propulsion Olympicwise.

IOC rules do not allow any powered sport at the moment.

And pooh-pooh to them for that eh?

It's still a challenging sport! Have A1-Gp catagory and like 125cc and 250cc GP bikes or something.
