umm, has anyone actually thought that maybe Giovanardi could be in contention for the Motorbase drive? him and Jackson or him and Turkington, Giovanardi has BMW experience from ETCC in 2004 i think it was or 2003. Although i dont think he did to well that year. Just pure speculation but i find it surprising that no one has mentioned him at all.

I have to say I can't see the logic of Turkington jumping ship to Motorbase, if that is the case. As after all WSR are built around him and have been for the last 4 years and if I recall correctly didn't Dick Bennetts say that he wanted to defend the championship with Colin earlier in the year. So if he has jumped ship then it must come down to money. I guess we will find out on Tuesday

All 888 would need is a title sponsor to pay Gio's wages and cover that car as if Phil Glew got the second seat, he would bring his own funding to the team for his own drive. And I know its a big thing to say ''All 888 would need is...''

Don't think we will see 888 on the grid.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings guys, but no returning champ this year, Turks can't raise the budget to compete in BTCC 2010

I predict Plato to take the championship in the Cruze (TBA Tuesday I think!) I honestly, with all due respect to the competition, see anyone able to challenge JP if the Cruze is as expected confirmed next week. Hmm |

He says he probably won't be out at the season opener, but hasn't given up trying get out later in the season in WSR's 3rd car. “It means I won’t be defending my title when the season starts at Thruxton over Easter weekend. I’m devastated to be honest — it will be the first time since 2003 I haven’t been racing in the BTCC, but never say never. I’m still trying my best to find the funding and West Surrey have a car there for me if something can be sorted out for later in the season". |

He'll be there. Whether its a case of WSR having a TBA on the entry list that is then filled at the 11th hour by Colin I don't know, but I would be absolutely shocked if he isn't on the Thruxton grid.

In terms of quality, possibly yes... but in terms of quantity it may be OK. As I mentioned before, we were spoilt last year in terms of the calibre of driver and excitement for the championship. 2009 will possibly go down as one of the best years ever.

Well, it's not Thruxton yet...
Maybe Turkington just tries to raise the budget with his pressrelease. It would be a shame indeed if he doesn't drive, but I can't really believe it. We have lost Vauxhall and probably Giovanardi, but there is still quality. Neal and Shedden are a good pairing at Honda. Collard at WSR is a contender for wins, and Motorbase may have even better drivers. The Ford will be improved and their line-up is also good. And Plato of course. And lets not forget we also have very interesting cars like the Golf or the NGTC engine Vectras. |

it just seems to be a bit flat in terms of names this year it will be just as good on track but not having the names there doesnt really look good for BTCC.

Plato to win the title by a country mile, breaking Andy Rouse's win record in the process, which would be a shame, as Andy was a far better racer. And if JP doesn't win, then it's even worse than 2007 when he really should have won it.

Well let's just wait to media day shall we? Who knows what suprises will be there. I suspect Jackson will be back again and he'll be a championship contender for sure.

Even with Turkington it's difficult to see anyone beating the Plato/Cruize combination. Whether they get full manufacturer support or not they are going to benefit from the development budget Chevrolet are throwing at the WTCC team.
That said I would have put my house on Giovanardi lifting the title last year. |
