I don't know if you can see very well on this photo, but 4 female threaded fastners have been fitted to 4 holes made in the bonnet. The lamp pod quickly attaches to these with 4 screws. You can also see the wiring for the lights poking through a 5th hole in the bonnet, which has a quick conector to connect to with the wiring in the lamp pod. Hope this can help. (The car in the picture is Malcolm Oxborrow's at the Donington Race in 1991) [edit: here is a zoomed portion of the bonnet] Last edited by Pete C; 8 Jan 2011 at 12:26. |

I found another photo, this time it's the 1993 Livery on the Tour of Flanders Rally.
Here you can see 4 rubber grommets protecting the threaded holes in the bonnet, but this time the wiring connector is routed through the bonnet to bumper gap. On the car behind, you can see that the lights attach to metal backplates which attach to the lamp-pod, and provide the fixing holes for the lamps to attach to. |

Thanks very much Pete C for all of your help and taking time to find pictures of the car.
Would they have been Hex screws to fix the pod to the bonnet? The lamp pod on the white gti looks slightly different to the one i have, mine looks a bit more bulky, pictures can be seen on ebay by typing ' roversport metro lamp pod' this will show the item i bought (think there's one left). Thanks again. Connor, |

It could be the right one after checking on this photo:
The pod goes up in the middle of the base to miss the Rover badge, and the centre lights are slightly forward. You have to cut holes in the front of the pod to accomodate the lamp bowl, using the mounting rims as a template. Sorry, I don't know if they were hex screws, or whether they were some special motorsport quick-fix fasteners. Last edited by Pete C; 8 Jan 2011 at 17:03. |

Hi Connor,
You're welcome. I found this shot showing the weldnuts welded inside the bonnet to accept the screws from outside. I'm guessing they were flange-headed hex screws, perhaps even with extra captive washers to make sure the washers weren't lost in the heat of fitting the lamp pod as quickly as possible. Here is another example, using steady bars to prevent the lights vibrating over bumpy roads. Last edited by Pete C; 8 Jan 2011 at 17:59. |

Thanks again for all the very helpfull information and pictures.
I can see that the lamps are Hella but not sure on the series, perhaps Hella 1000's as these are 7". The first lamp pod close up looks to be exactly the same as the lamp pod i have which is great, just need the two fogs, two spots and the mounting kit to be able to adjust them slightly. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get all the pictures from? because it would be nice to see the backs of the 1991 scheme cars because i'd like to replicate the outside of Malcolm Oxborrow's car and stick a few of my own decals as i have a 1991 storm grey gti. Thanks, Connor. |

Here are a couple of photos of your car. If I remember correctly, this was at Oulton Park in 1992 and this was at Knockhill in 1992 |

I'll have a look for some pics of the back, hopefully one evening this week. I took the pictures myself, but they're prints stored in shoeboxes - before digital cameras came along! I know Malcolm too (I was his co-driver for a few years) Last edited by Pete C; 8 Jan 2011 at 19:15. |

Oh wow, it's wonderful to see the fotos of the Metro GTi on here.
Why didn't I see this thread before being an owner of a cherished 1990 Rover Metro GTi 16v spi. Last year was the 20th Anniversary of the Rover Metro and 30th Anniversary of the Austin Metro. The Metro Owner's Club met up at Gaydon in May 2010 and the selection of Metro's was awesome. See my Photobucket folder: http://s375.photobucket.com/albums/o...Gaydon%202010/ Also I attach a foto of my friend Amanda Smith with her 1993/4 GTi mpi at the Trax event, Silverstone in September 2009. She has just become Race Co-ordinator for the MG Metro Cup. Also a foto of my GTi arriving at Gaydon last May. Hope I have not gone too off topic !!!! but I love Metro's of all types ... and Mazda MX-6's too ... PS. Here's another shot of my car being used as a Course Car at a Snetterton 750 Motor Club meeting in September 2002. Clerk of the Course David Brice can be seen hanging on for dear life .... cos I was shifting a bit !! Last edited by Paulaweybridge; 9 Feb 2011 at 02:13. Reason: Another foto |

I have some more that I will post up once I've scanned them. In the mean time, I found this on U-tube, the very first round of the Dunlop Metro GTi Challenge, the 1991 West Cork Rally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG13MOAH2XE It features a bit of in-car with Tony Pond. Also the Metros of David Hall, Don Kettleborough and Lance Gilmore. |

Hi John,
that would be great to hear what info Chris can give you!! If you want, I can send you some pictures of it now so you can show him how much it has changed!! Although it does have the same front and rear bumpers, and also the tailgate (I know this because when the car isnt polished, I can see the RLE Engineering where the stickers had been!!) ChrisA |

I would've liked those seats and harnesses but don't have the money.
Would've been nice because i have a roversport lamp pod and loom for a roversport metro gti replica i was thinking of doing. |
