Yes that's true, and I disagree with that situation. Take Kimi Raikkonen or Sebastian Vettel. They did well, but anyway I'd have preferred them to spend time in powerful formula cars before doing F1.

Victor Carbone took two years to come to grips with F2000, and his only serious on-track challenger in last year's F2000 Championship Series was a rookie (ie. Daniel Erickson) who missed four of the 14 rounds and drove crap cars due to lack of funds.
Leap-frogging Star Mazda means that Victor may struggle to be competitive in Indy Lights this year, but assuming he's using the same two-year strategy as in F2000 - and has the cash to do it - he should be close to the pace in 2012. Last edited by Morris Dancer; 13 Jan 2011 at 12:14. |

Edmonton has been added to the Indy Lights schedule.
So it's 1 permanent road course (Barber), six temporary courses (St. Pete, Long Beach, Toronto, Trois-Rivières and Baltimore) and 6 ovals (Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Iowa, New Hampshire, Kentucky and Las Vegas). |

Wade Cunningham did F2000 in 2004 after winning the world karting championship in 2003. In 2005 he was Indy lights champion.
If Carbone is good enough he can do the job and I think he is good enough... Cunningham remains one of the most untapped talents to go through Indylights. |

Obviously your preference has nothing to do with their innate abilities.

There's no mention of it yet, so some news, albeit old, is that Josef Newgarden, once touted to be America's best hope for F1, looks to be running Indy Lights in 2011, perhaps with some GP3, too. Newgarden's been linked to Andretti's team, which would be a good place to start I'd think. He has a lot of talent, but just not at the F1 level, so he's more than welcome in INDYCAR. Nice kid, potential to be marketable, and really fast. Just got rushed up in Europe to GP3 when he needed something between Formula Ford and that series. I must say that Guerrieri and Newgarden in FILS makes me very interested, not to mention Conor Daly and Bryan Clauson splitting a Sam Schmidt ride (Daly on the road/street, Clauson on the ovals).
Another USAC driver, Clauson's rival Levi Jones, may have a deal with AFS pending, too, so that's another great name to add to the sport if that materializes. |

Versus will broadcast 8 races live (Barber, Long Beach, Indianapolis, Iowa, Toronto, Edmonton, Baltimore and Kentucky) and Trois-Rivières delayed, that is all non-ABC races plus Indy.

Cant believe Conor Daly doesnt have a full-time ride. The ladder system is useless if he only races part time in 2011...

Carbone aside, SSM have one hell of a team.
For your car count/entry list, I'm pretty sure Andretti are fielding two cars. Stefan Wilson and Philip Major are the likely drivers. On the AFS front, if Levi Jones races, it would be part-time. Not sure if that's a third car or what for them; with their INDYCAR plans, I'm not sure if FILS goes on hold or not. |

Didnt realize he had the GP3 ride - why would he do indy lights aswell? Surely its better to concentrate & win the GP3 title then do both series... Goodluck to him if he can tho!

Gomick, having one step on each side of the Atlantic will help him find a seat higher in the ladder in 2012. If one side fails, he will move that feet to the other side of the ocean.

Yep. The Lights ride was paid for (at least in part) for winning Star Mazda, so why not? I think Daly, or his father, or his managers, or whomever, is probably aware that while he may be talented, he's not really at the F1 level, and it's important not to disappear from the INDYCAR ladder when, whether he wants it to or not, his career is likely heading there.
