"Fernández Enjoys an Evening with Lance Armstrong and Friends"

PHOENIX, Ariz. (February 2, 2004) – Adrián Fernández joined partners and friends of the U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team® this past Friday in a Champions Dinner to launch the team’s 2004 season in which Lance Armstrong will vie for his sixth victory in the Tour de France. Held at the Boulders Resort and Golden Door Spa, the Champions Weekend capped off the cycling team’s pre-season training camp in Solvang, Calif., held January 20 through 29.

“It was a special evening,” said Fernández. “I was invited by Terry Lee [Chairman and CEO of Bell Sports], and had the chance to meet Lance which was a great experience. He is such a tremendous athlete. He spoke and shared with all of us the experiences he went through to win the Tour de France last year. It was incredible.
“I also had the chance to meet Victor Hugo Pena from Colombia who wore the yellow jersey for a time last year, and I was introduced to [actor/comedian] Robin Williams which was very special. The event is also a fundraiser to help young cyclists. It was a really a ‘once in a lifetime’ type of evening.”

The U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team begins its hectic 2004 schedule with the Tour of Algarve in Portugal on February 18.

Fernández will begin his on-track preparations for his 12th season of Champ Car competition on February 3 when Fernández Racing heads to Sebring International Raceway in Florida for a three-day test.

P.S. PK Racing and Herdez Competition will also be testing at the Sebring track in Florida....

This is a bit off-racing, but isn't Lance Armstrong an amazing guy? To dominate the sport for so long, in such a tough event, despite his past cancer, really is astounding. For sheer determination, stamina and consistancy, no other sportsman comes close.

On topic, I can't wait for the cars to get back out there. It seems like an eternity.
