Mercedes CLK GT3??

These photos from ring-focus.de have been posted at the GT-eins.de-forum:

Audi and BMW via Alpina are already in, could this be the beginning of the first straight fight between the Big 3 German Luxury Car makers in almost a decade??

Pretty sure that bodywork is too heavily modified to be GT3.

I was thinking it could be for VLN but I didnt think AMG was developing a car for that series. It could be a customer project (by AMG).

No. Current DTM cars are sedan based.

It looks to be based on the CLK63 Black Series, a special edition CLK63 road car inspired by DTM cars.

Satorian has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Whatever this is, I'm intrigued. Looks fairly professional. Would love to have more info.

It must be an official AMG job.

Maybe for a client, but still..

This I have to disagree with though. Alpina, even when according to rumours enjoying some BMW support, is not the same as having BMW run the racing effort. Also, GT3 isn't a very good technological show case, seeing as how cars are deliberately balanced by the governing body, so I'm not sure BMW are all that interested in it. GT2, GT2S, SP7 might be of interest to them, but GT3 would only be of peripheral interest and I just can't see them pouring much effort into it.

I've heard, Mercedes has semi-works car on Nurb 24h - as far as I remember, SLK35 with hard roof.

The only thing which makes me wonder, is the fact that I find it strange for AMG to develop a car on a discontinued chassis. The CLK will be replaced next year, which points it towards a client effort?

All GT Race cars have mountings for a passenger seat, that are often used on trackdays.

True, gotta think that's a great PR tool with charity rides and rids for the sponsor's attendees. Every little bit helps bring in the sponsor cash.

I'm no close friend of the rule book but those guards look a bit fat for GT3? Other than that it looks GT3ish.

Damn it's ugly. But why would Mercedes enter GT3 when their German rivals Porsche and Audi are getting far more promotion for their projects in the LMP ranks? Must be a one-off client jobby.

That thing is no more than a CLK63 Black Series with some track kit thrown in. Surely it's a one off.

I think it's someone's private project, and they just have a lot of AMG stickers...

I'd say some sort of privately funded project perhaps for trackdays or "local" race series.

Evosport makes cages and a lot of performance parts for the car and you have to assume their are a number of German aftermarket companies that make kits and products for the car.
