All,
Forgive me if this has already been linked, but Flickr has a recently posted, large collection of historic F1 and Sportscar pics by one 'JohnM47'. They include excellent trackside portraits of the cars in action, in-pit pics of them undressed and some intimate pics of the personalities of 60/70s motorsport at work. Well worth a look, IMHO.

Great find John - some fantastic pictures. To me this was the last era of the racing gods when drivers still wrestled with fundamentally basic machinery without any electronic aids and when an error cost a life. Not saying it was right or acceptable but to me these guys were the last of the heroes. Quite sobering to note the names and realise how many lost their lives in the name of sport.

That's a great collection- you know it's going to be good when you click on the link and the first two pics you see are Gilles in a 312T and Mario in a Lotus 79 at Brands...

I was wondering the same thing when I was browsing through the album, so I sent a message to 'JohnM47' and got this reply back:

I'm just an enthusiast with a camera who
followed contemporary racing around Europe for a few decades
but eventually, in the early 90s, I got fed up with being
ripped-off by the Bernie and Max show. Also the
proliferation of high fences around both tracks and
paddocks meant that it was hardly worth the amateur turning
up with a camera anymore. I still go to historic meetings
though where access is better.

Most of my old photos were taken on transparencies and I'm
picking out a selection to re-photograph using an attachment
on my digital camera. The reproduction quality isn't as good
as I like it to be but it's generally good enough to look
at. Plenty more to come.

For someone who describes himself as an amateur, Mr Millar has taken outstanding photographs and I look forward to seeing more of them soon!
