Barcelona Test - Correct times!!??

I saw the times on Autosport.com and was a little concerned to see that Scheckter was listed as second fastest on the opening day. Strange, I thought, especially as Baumgartner was actually the second fastest driver of the day. Is this the Scheckter PR machine kicking into life? Who knows!! One thing is for certain though, Bruni set a time of 1m32.20, Baumgartner set a 1m32.43 and scheckter set a 1m32.48. Oh yes, and to quote Baumgartner, who less than impressed in the Prost F3000 car this season.."The difference between the Prost car and the Nordic car is that the Prost car feels like an F3 car compared to this...!!"

Gianmaria Bruni once again set the pace in the end-of-season official F3000 testing today.

On the first of a two day test at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, the Italian lapped the track in 1:32.2, for Coloni.

A number of other teams were at the test, including Nordic who tested Zsolt Baumgartner. The Hungarian was third fastest overall, just hundredths of a second behind Tomas Scheckter testing for Arden.

Also with Arden was Rodrigo Sperafico, lapping in 1:32.7. The team will test Sebastien Bourdais tomorrow.

But the big event of the day was Warren Hughes testing the new Lola B2/50 for the first time. The car, which was officially unveiled last month, impressed its test driver, who was a title contender in Italian F3000 last year: "Generally, the car is very good," he said. "It's an excellent starting point. The car is much nicer to drive than the old one in respect of better handling and the geabox, which needs much less effort. It feels more like I'd imagine an F1 car is like to drive."

Hughes will be back in the car tomorrow, helping to develop the new Avon tyres, but despite his F3000 experience, we will not be seeing him in the series next year. He is committed to racing for MG in the British Touring Car Championship.

Top 7 At Barcelona
1 Gianmaria Bruni 1:32.1
2 Tomas Scheckter 1:32.3
3 Zsolt Baumgartner 1:32.4
4 Rodrigo Sperafico 1:32.6
5 Warren Hughes 1:33.2
6 Richard Lyons 1:33.5
7 Nicolas Kiesa 1:35.0

Nov 1

So Scheckter was 2nd quickest.

Kiesa in a Coloni, isn't that the team with the illegal rocket Fuel, I suppose the FIA doesn't check the fuel on tests?
So, I wouldn't consider these times to much!
