How will Alonso do next year?
I think he's a bit of an unknown quantity, and I think Renault took a big chance on him. Hopefully he'll do well, and I really hope he doesn't do a Button and get destroyed by his teammate.

I think he'll do about as well as Trulli has this year, reliable but ultimately disappointing.

No, I think he'll do better and be more consistent than both Renault drivers have been this season.

But one thing that i'm certain of is that he won't impress like JV did!

I hope he kicks butt because he's Spaniard. Hopefully he'll get onto the podium....

Alonso is a very good driver. His achievement with the minardi in Australia last year when the car had zero testing during winter and only had a shakedown run before practice was stunning. I was amazed that he even got within 107% of pole to get onto the grid - I had predicted that he would not get a start.
I would compare Fernando's performance last year with Mark Webber's performance this year. Both were great. |

He'll do alright as long as the car can finish races.

I think he's a tad over-rated but he should do alright. But I think Trulli will beat him.

the way I see it is that the Fish hurt Button - Button regained some ground with Trulli but not overwhelming. Alonzo is the new MS according to Flavio. this means he should kick Trulli pretty good. If not better get the JV or the Fish!!

Fish?
No way, he's not as good as JV! Not in this lifetime! |

I think he'll struggle to beat Trulli, simply because Jarno has made such an improvement in the last few races, and they both have 1 year experience in the team. Still, it should be exciting to watch a new star in the team who has Flavio's support (unlike Jenson). He did well at Mianrdi in 2001, perhaps even better than Webber given the confused state the team was in, and that he was only 20.

Personally I think he was much better than Webber, but it is very hard to compare until you see them as teammates (and sometimes not even then).

He should beat Trulli if he's any good. Jarno hasn't impressed me at all since Monaco 00. His best race was undoubtabley Spain 99, taking his painfully slow Prost to 5th, after running in the points all race (and no I havn't forgotten Austria 97).

I thought Jarno did well at Nurburgring in 99 to come in 2nd in the Prost and hold off Barichello for the last few laps. I hope Alonso does well, coz I think Trulli is very over rated, a bit like Fisichella; lots of hype, very few results

And it was only 6th in 1999. That Nurgurgring day was so bittersweet for me. Gené and Trulli, but then Badoer

After watching him for years in world championship karting Alonso will go great. I predict he'll be better than Trulli and is certainly better than Button.
The reason? He's just as fast and smooth but importantly he's got that vital killer instinct that JT and JB lack. Alonso is hard as nails and I guarantee he'll suprise the doubters next year. |
