Raikkonen - what a drive
30 seconds behind after a few laps - ended up 22 seconds off a win.
If Kimi hadn't had the puncture, he would have been second, and then Juan Pablo would surely have moved over. Interestingly - Mika Hakkinen had a career dogged by bad luck for its first seven seasons - at least Kimi's bagged a few wins already. Okay - Kimi did have a spin, but that was because he was pushing SO hard. The best driver on the grid now, I believe. |

Imagine how well he might have gone if he was able to get past JV before the first stop, or better yet, made a better start and kept JV behind him.

Great drive from Kimi. You can almost feel the cold hard determination that guy has to put the car through the corners as fast as it can go.
Can't really blame him for the spin when he's going flat out and a bit more... really tough luck for this guy...he could have so easily dominated the race. He had shown himself to be an absolute top-drawer driver...even more impressive than his teammate and Alonso. Pity that till now, we've yet a good chance to see those guys fight it out for a whole race without one falling out. |

He probably saved a couple of laps of fuel while running behidn JV, which may have been what made the one-stop strategy possible. Certainly his qualifying lap maximised his situation, and everything except the start and the spin were excellent. I'm sure he'll get plenty of Driver of the Race votes, although not mine.

It was a good drive apart from the continuing inability to overtake and the small spin towards the end. But still some effort.

A shame for Raikkonen. He tried hard, but unfortunately he was unable to finish in front of Alonso. Unfortunately for Kimi, Alonso can become the world champion in Spa.

It may just happen next week you know, I'm not confident a Mercedes engine can go through Spa AND Monza. It's a punishing duty cycle. At least Kimi has a fresher engine than Montoya though (unless Montoya is due a new one next weekend, which I don't think he is).

Montoya will have a new engine at Spa.
He retired in Hungary, so had a new one for Turkey. |

i love this whole "oooh kimi had a great race etc"
who had the spin? quick hint, it wasnt anybody on the podium. kimi overcooked it and spun it! (ohhh how very montoya of him!), he also didnt seemingly try very hard to get past JV and sat behind him for most of the first stint, so maybe he made some of the problems himself.... oh no sorry hes wonderkid kimi and we should forget the three drivers who finished ahead of him and between them had a pretty much faultless race from lights to flag. but seemingly they all got forgotten......... gotta love 10-10ths for that! Not by me. If you push hard and have a spin, it may lose, say 8 seconds. If you drive a second a lap slower, you lose a lot more. |

Yes, I remember KB sticking up for Montoya generally when he has made mistakes this year. And all in all, he and Kimi have made a similar amount of them over the year.
But there are some extremists out there who would have been jumping up and down on Montoya or Fisi or anyone else if they had done what Kimi did today. We probably would have had very negative thread started. |

it was a good drive by kimi, but dont forget he has the fastest car on the grid. MS is still the best driver on the grid.

People say "MS is the best driver on the grid" because that's the easiest answer to give.
It's based on history and achievement and it doesn't need a lot of thought. But absolutely right now, I think Kimi's better - and a lot of people increasingly think that too - Jackie Stewart for one. |
