Well done, Matt. Also 'hi' to Michael Birch who JR introduced me too, although in view of John's remarks about his driving I'm surprised Michael is still talking to him.
Many thanks for the kind words from several of you. |

It's interesting reading people's reaction to the weekend. May I post the Miserable Flagman's view.
Silverstone has turned itself into a bit of a monster. Despite the fantastic entries the meeting fell short of expectations largely because of the circuit. The HSCC organisation performed well. There were a few battles going on and I dare say these were fun for the drivers but those carry on round the circuit. I reckon few drivers actually had much race interaction with others, particularly though the Beckets complex. Exception David Methley who made Beckets his favourite overtaking place - tee hee! Most of the races became strung out and lappery was odd car over odd car as opposed to what normally happens with a batch of cars negotiating another batch of cars. The one race I did enjoy was the Guards Trophy. Having Peter Lanfranchi join us for a while was also entertaining. Perhaps more drivers could plan little visits to marshals posts............ As a flaggie you only see the cars for a short period and on a long circuit a race has relatively few laps - 20 mins was fewer times round than we would normally see. Given that many of the marshal posts are now in the wrong places after the circuit revisions and so far from the drivers on track, I found it difficult to have any form of engagement with the track action. Evidence of this is that the posts are so spread out that the territory covered by a flaggie is so extensive that you often miss yellow flags at the next post up. In some cases the fencing actually stops you seeing the next post. It lowers the quality of the flagging. Given the disance to central facilities a 15/20 min break for "lunch" is inadequate to rest/get food/relieve oneself let alone socialise and take advantage of the facilities. I really resent giving up my time and money to be put in a place where I can be of little value to the racers. I am embarassed to say I persuaded my son to come too and he was so bored he'd rather stayed at home. This weekend fell way short of the excitement delivered in previous May meetings. It seems to me Silverstone has sacrificed everything for the three or four "glory meetings" per year and that the place is less suitable for club racing on the extended circuiit. The infastructure still has much work ahead. So thats my personal view. Perhaps Anglesey next weekend will be a better bet? |

It looked a bit lonely in some places. I can't comment on Sunday as I was not there. |

John - you must have been next to me when you took the spinning FF2000! I felt sorry for the car that was tagged into a spin later in the race - the yellow car that caused it managed to get away but the spinner was game over!

That's the one Grant, brilliantly captured. I lost the engine and thought I was out, because the starter motor was struggling to spin the engine back into life.

As for the cause of the incident - 50/50 I thought. There was another rather similar incident with the same white car earlier in the race which also looked somewhat 50/50 to me. But then I'm no expert. I'll post the series of pics if anyone is interested. |

Matt, was it you or your father trying to pick up extra rubber around the complex? Your car arrived first,it was your corner. Very well done for the class win though, nice up there in the clouds is'nt it? LoL |

It was good to meet you too and also Iain, Alan Morgan and Mike Bell. Obviously I missed quite a few people - always seems to be the way. Some I didn't know were there, some I just didn't get to in time and at least one because he looked a bit fraught at the time! I now have a large collection of photos of Turners (the cars) that I will refine somewhat and make available, hopefully in the next day or so. Meanwhile, back to the topic, the photo essay part one. White and yellow cars come up to pass Seamus being the starting point. Both cars slowed somewhat from what I recall and there was a slighty untypical burst of acceleration towards Brooklands. I suspect there appeared to be a bit of a gap on the inside that disappeared and resulted in a lot of tyre smoke from the yellow car. Followed by some synchonised pirouetting. I'm out of images for this post so will add another for the rest. Last edited by grantp; 17 May 2010 at 17:23. |

Part 2
Having just been passed Seamus arrives on the scene. He stops just at the yellow car but, presumably, lost the engine.
Mr. Rowley passes by (amongst others). Meanwhile the yellow car has made a getaway across the grass and as I recall the white car moved off too. With just one lap to go (as I recall) the race was completed with waved yellows at Brooklands. |

Part 3
It occurs to me that it is possible that the white car offers some sort of visual enticement to make people believe there is more space availbale than there is. Might be a colour and shape thing.
Here is an earlier incident in the same race. Very similar it seems to me. Good entertainment for the crowd in the gallery, which included at least one well known motor sport journalist. |

Ah so that's why there was a car sitting in the middle of the road at that corner on the last lap...
We spoke to Dave (in the white Dulon) after the race. I think he was pretty much unscathed in the incident but after the race, he drove over a drain cover in the paddock and put a hole in his sump, depositing all his engine oil on the ground. He has had so much bad luck with that car. |

As I said in an earlier post, we've peaked too soon! It was very odd following Martin Stretton into the 'winners' enclosure - my father and friends assumed that I'd stopped out on track somewhere and that I was waving a piece of the car at them... My father started the race (entrant having to do 25mins) and I did the last bit - so you'll have to tell me at which point in the race (timewise) it happened? |

was lovely to see it there (even if it did seem a little overmatched in that race!)
