BRC Live, Mallory - anyone go?
Anyone else go to this yesterday? I thought the 'classics' demos were awesome - when did you last see a Renault 5 turbo, a Lancia 037, a TR7, Gp4 Escort, a 6R4 and RS200 all barrel through a chicane at the same time within inches of each other...? As good as the glory days of Grp B rallycross!
The 'demo' was pretty competitive - all ending with the Lancia being stuffed into the rear end of a Manta. Oopps! Only downside was that all this exotic machinery made the current BRC group Ns and 1600s look a little tame... and I'm sure that wasn't the intended result! |

I was marshalling at the entrance to Gerrards.
It was quite entertaining seeing the drivers get quicker and quicker as the day went on. I had the feeling that if we had carried on any longer at least one would have ended up in the barriers. It was good to see a fairly big crowd. |

Marshaled at Gerrards and had a thoroughly enjoyable (but cold) day. We voted the No1 Mitsubishi as the most entertaining driver. Sideways through the new chicane at post 5 every time!

I was also there and I have to say I wasn't that impressed. How ever I did enjoy the Grp B cars. Another highlight of the day was the quad bikes, they looked good fun.
There are few photos from the day at http://www.rdj-pics.co.uk/Photos/200...ive/index.html |

The BRC seem pleased with the venue (according to MN) and are going to repeat it. However there is still a question mark about whether a traditional circuit shows rally cars off to their best effect... so...
Why don't the BRC work together with the rallycross promoters and put in a rallycross course like the one they had at Mallory years ago? It would provide the rally boys with a better circuit for their annual jamboree and rallycross a much-needed venue in the midlands... |
